Growing up in New York City I found that the majority of Jw kids led a double life. You had to to survive or you would be eaten up by the bad kids. As I got older in High School I couldn't keep up with the worldly kids so then I was revealed and beaten up by the worldly kids. In my high school the chinese kids were the lowest on the scale of cool kids. And I got beat up and laughed at by them!

I guess I was kinda spineless now that i look back at myself. I lived a double life from when I was about 13 to up till I was 26 I was always afraid to let my friends and family down so I lied to them to try to keep them happy all the time I was cheating myself and making it harder i think in the long run to break things off without hurting people more. I just could not keep up the act anymore I was stressing myself out too much. Now that I look back on things I know I could have prevented a lot of heartache and missery in life if I would have stopped the act and had just been myself.

Whilst an elder , I remember going to see Basic Instinct and other such films. I also downloaded Porn from the Internet - so yes I led a double life and sat in judgement of others -- pretty wicked and awful really -- obviously I am totally ashamed now - not about the double life but for sitting on JCs in judgement of others

When I think about double life, I think about teenagers acting good at home and the kingdom hall but being totally different at school to fit in. But I suppose some things I did as an adult would qualify after looking at this thread. I looked at porn and went to a few R-rated movies before I decided that the JW were wrong. The porn bothered me, the R-rated movies didn't seem like a big deal. I would never talk about seeing them at the hall, but I wouldn't have been at all flustered if an elder had seen me entering or exiting an R-rated movie. Not something I made an effort to hide. The porn was another thing.
