I agree with you. Its just sometimes not possible to save them, either. You do a great job and a very difficult one.

Sorry, Gadget, I was just talking out of my rear-end. I didn't know all those things. Thanks for putting me right.
My apologies.

Sorry for going on about that so much, but its an emotional subject for me. And I know your a good bloke too!
I suppose that open fronted cells, such as we see in American movies, would be better than our private-style cells?

First off - gadget, anybody that works the "grunt" job in a prison, hospital, or psychiatric facility has my total respect. I was a nurse's aide, and boy, it was thankless. I imagine guarding must have the same thanklessness about it.
As far as him killing himself, can't say I mind too much. Not a great tragedy - but a conspiracy among guards to "let" him do it would take a certain malevolence from top to bottom in an organization - and I don't get that from the guards I've known. Prison isn't like "Oz."
It's just a messy end to a horrible incident. Bury him and move on.

If you are referring to the HBO television series, I would say American prisons are a lot like Oz unfortunately.
Hi Englishman;

Why? Lack of privacy might cut down on suicide, but only if there is line of sight/CCT coverage through the front of every cell at all times. If no one is actively looking an open fronted cell is no less suicide proof than a closed fronted cell.
As an open fronted cell would make many people feel dehumanised and behave accordingly, it might actually create worse problems!
They(the relatives) wouldn't have had an xpainion anyway b/c as a newspaper article xpained, a psychopath can't xplained Y they did it.
Some(ian Brady) think the world revolves around them.
They(serial killers)have no insight in2 the feelings of the victims,only their arrogant narcissitic self.
