President Bush said that they would go back to the moon by 2015 and build a space station there. From there, they could send man to Mars one day.

The US has a large deficit, and maybe the money could be spent elsewhere.

Do you find that this is money well spent?

Yeah, look how great the first moon landing was! We got to bring back some rocks and take some snazzy pictures of our home planet! Space is supposed to be the final frontier. We have a long way to go before that.

But won't Armageddon be here before that?

    Michael,

Those on the moon will escape armageddon. Isn't that great. They will come back on a paradise earth.

I understand where your coming, but I think I would rather stay on the moon.

For the initial phases of the project, Bush asked for an extra $1 billion over 5 years. I really don't think that's excessive.

Five years from now, depending on the state of the budget, we may need to re-evaluate the timeline. But even though I'm no fan of Bush, I'm at least glad that he's moving us in this direction.

I'm waiting on the "we have too many social problems here on earth" asshats to get their comments out of the way before I comment.

**note to Mods** I pronounce Asshat (a shot)

We must get NASA out of the low orbit mire and set them loose to do what they are meant to do. Explore planets. Man must be involved.

I don?t buy the money "can be spent elsewhere" mantra. We had the poor when Kennedy inspired man flights, and we will continue to have the poor in the future (quasi Jesus quote). Billions and Billions have been spent on the war on property, with no conclusion in sight.

The potential befits in technology and resources in space must be addressed.

Space - the free market frontier......

Wouldn't a new public housing project be much more inspiring than Moon/Mars mission?
