It is typically a BARGAIN to pay the tuition and expenses for 3 years of law school (in New York, I would expect them to live in one of the Society's properties anyway). Depending on the school, it may total 75,000 to 150,000 less any scholarships.
For example, take $125,000 divided by a rate of $250/hour if they had to pay the attorneys fees to an outside firm, and you have 500 hours. The Society could easily recoup it's investment in the first year if the person agreed to "donate" as little as 10 or so hours a week. After that, it's pure savings.
It only makes sense to invest in your own employees or members since they tend to be more loyal anyway. Any organization that is fiscally responsible only outsources professional services when "specialists" are involved.
