No. Not always...but I made ya look.. now...wait for the punchline, yall.....

These warning signs of an abusive relationship can also be applied to a Religious relationship:

    Does the Religion you love...

? constantly keep track of your time?

Field service time and meeting attendance anyone?

    ? act jealous and possessive?

Exclusive Devotion to WTS and publishing work....all other relationships are unnecessary and others are "worldly", "unbelievers" and "not good association" anyway and might distract you from exclusive devotion to the WTS and what it wishes you to be doing. And the WTS members will watch you and spy on you if there is the slightest suspicion raised as to your straying from exclusive devotion to the WTS and its doctrines and policies.

? accuse you of being unfaithful or flirting?

No outside associations or affiliations are allowed, except as necessary for an income, as the WTS can't actually be expected to support YOU, no matter how many years, how much effort and how much money you put into supporting THEM. Going "online" is also "not approved" as you might actually access information the WTS does not wish you to have.

? discourage your relationships with friends and family?

If not approved as good association (avid supporters of WTS only, please) An abuser does this to prevent anyone else from having the opportunity to open your eyes to their abusively control-freaking tactics. All opposers and/or those who would attempt to give you another point of view (reality check) are "worldly", "apostate" or "unbelievers" and thus are liars.

? prevent or discourage you from working, interacting with friends or attending school?

(work PT and pioneer, do more work in publishing field, less recreation and association, formal schooling not necessary) Does not wish for WTS members to be "online" as too much access to outside viewpoints which do not agree with what the WTS wants its member to believe. And ONLY news articles that pander to the WTS policies and praise its events are true, all others being "lies and slander"....

? constantly criticize or belittle you?

(talks on Congregational "Needs") private and public reproofs for "conduct unbecoming" re: dress and behaviors...additionally, ALL talks in service meetings and schools promote the idea that WTS members fall short of perfection in some way and need to improve something about themselves.

? control all finances and force you to account for what you spend? (Reasonable cooperative budgeting excepted.)

WTS recvs "donations" for publishing work and for KH building from members, which WTS in turn, LOANS BACK to the Congs for KH building, which must then be REPAID to WTS, even tho it was obtained from the Cong members in the FIRST place...and NO MEMBER EVER benefits in any tangible way from this "sleight of handling" the WTS financial kingdom.

? humiliate you in front of others? (Including "jokes" at your expense.)

Public reproofs, disf'ing talks, talks on cong. "needs", elders' talks, wherein they "joke" about their wives' or childrens' behaviors....

? destroy or take your personal property or sentimental items?

Intimidate and/or humiliate you into destroying or throwing away or giving up many things that are of sentimental or financial value as "disapproved" or "inappropriate" for JWs to have, as well as encouraging the donation of even life insurance policies and personal real estate in wills made out to the WTS.

    ? have affairs?

WTS was United Nations NGO member from 1991 to 2001 until they were "caught" and it was made public. Of course, denial is the usual response of an abuser and the WTS said it's affiliation was "only for a library card so they could have access to the UN library" ("Honey, she's my secretary...She HAD to go with me to Hawaii to take dictation..") which is actually accessible to the public WITHOUT the need for a library card. AND....anyone can go online to the United Nations website and confirm these facts via email or by writing the UN.

? threaten to hurt you, your children or pets? Threaten to use a weapon?

(weapon) Armageddon is just "around the corner" (since 1914)...you'll die without the WTS....so will your children...If you question the WTS policies and doctrines or go against them, you will be disf'd (another weapon), resulting in your death and possibly the death of your children...and the WTS and its members will treat you as though you're dead, anyway (yet another weapon).

? push, hit, slap, punch, kick, or bite you or your children?

Public reproofs and disf-ing talks are a verbally violent form of abuse and are often delivered as a punch to the "gut" or kick in the cajones.

? force you to have sex against your will, or demand sexual acts you are uncomfortable with?

Verbal intercourse is not only expected in the form of house to house witnessing and giving public talks on stage at the KHs and Assemblies, but it is demanded of every member in order to be "approved", no matter how uncomfortable a person may be with having public intercourse.

    You naughty Banana!

You wrote that all very well. This concept has occured to me, perhaps not in the detail you gave. Now that I am out of the JWs, I tend to see it more in other people that I interact with. They are mostly Baptists or Nazarenes or some other highly Jesus Freaked group.

What I kind of notice too is that this abuse pattern comes in layers like a stack of flap-jacks. Religious abuse + familial abuse +food/substance missuse. Those all tend to be negativly reenforcing. To get out of one is a long slow spiral, that may also help end the others too. --I'm rambling--

    Peace
