You naughty Banana! You wrote that all very well. This concept has occured to me, perhaps not in the detail you gave. Now that I am out of the JWs, I tend to see it more in other people that I interact with. They are mostly Baptists or Nazarenes or some other highly Jesus Freaked group.
What I kind of notice too is that this abuse pattern comes in layers like a stack of flap-jacks. Religious abuse + familial abuse +food/substance missuse. Those all tend to be negativly reenforcing. To get out of one is a long slow spiral, that may also help end the others too. --I'm rambling--

LOL, DkUnc! Thanks. I see it in other religiously-oriented ppl too, now that I'm out....the WTS has taught us how to recognize their ilk very well, huh?

Interesting comments about the abuse pattern in layers....and oh, so true!

    Cheers!

Brilliant Frannie - -I never thought about it that way -- but now you list t he points -- yes becoming a JW is like being engaged to a jealous boyfriend/girlfriend

Encouraging spouses to divorce their mates for "spiritual endangerment".. certainly reeks of a jealous religious organization.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to include an article titled "Tampons: Are they really for christians?"

Hmmm..interesting and great points for actual abusive relationships, but a bit of a stretch in applying some of those things to JW's, especially the last one.

The bible itself is packed with things that you could equate this to, eg, Jehovah describes himself as a jealous God, Jesus often belittled the pharisees, Jesus threw the money changers out, etc etc.

No, it isn't any stretch at all, Neumenon....think about this.....in Rev. 14: 8, BTG is held accountable for causing all the nations to partake of the "wine of the wrath of her fornication" (translations vary, but thought is mostly same) and "it has made people suffer God's anger." WE Remember how the Hebrew scriptures say "Keep silence before Jehovah." NWT Why do you suppose we're to keep silence? .....and the Ten Commandments warn us not to make any "engraved image/carving of anything that is in heaven above, the earth below or the water under the earth....." Also, an old "saying" is that talking or speech is the Devil's handiwork. There must have been a reason for so many to believe this is so.

There is no literal "wine of wrath" in a physical act of fornication....Revelation is symbolic, not literal....one way to view this thought is that the wine of wrath is the empowerment in self-righteousness and judgment against one another to the point of anger given us by the scriptures (each one's "sword" (two-edged sword) will be raised against his brother) is the "wine" (making us drunk with self-empowerment) of the "wrath" (angry judgment) of her "fornication" (verbal intercourse with earthling men via the scriptures)....words (intercourse) printed on paper ARE engraved images/carvings which we WORSHIP as the Word of God....apples of gold, in carvings of silver adorn the leaves (pages) of the bible we worship (Jer 10) and we hold them in an exalted position, forgetting the one who brought words into existence and we use them against one another in judgment and anger....they fill us with self-righteousness, causing us to indulge in a superiority complex and consequently bringing God's anger against us....and Babylon the Great IS the scriptures....is the Word of God gone wild and having intercourse with men, spurring them to commit heinous, malicious acts against one another......is the tree of the knowledge of what is good and what is bad....and until we give back what belongs only to God, we will be estranged from Him/Her....The Ten Commandments were the only alleged writings of God and they "disappeared" (for a good reason) when Jesus paid his dues. Think about it.
