Keep in mind the two aren't mutually exclusive. It's essential to the commercial ongoing financial viability of the publication and distribution to protect copyright. Unchecked bootlegging is subversive to legitimate publication and distribution on a large worldwide scale, thereby counterproductive in terms of circulation volume and reach. It's never going to be a bestseller and make anyone wealthy.
All the exJW utube video makers do a great job, don't think anyone really realised that pdf COC was against the copyright, once they did they tried to make things right.
