When The Persecution Comes

When I was young everybody used to fantasise constantly about how brave we would all need to be "when the persecution comes".

We worried about what "they" would do to us and how we would never talk or betray other JWs. Psychologically it was a damaging environment for children; but maybe that's another topic.

Who would have thought that when it finally came it would take the form of being sued for protecting pedophiles.

How embarrassing it must be. I actually feel bad for the many innocent elderly long-term JWs who must be feeling betrayed and bewildered.

The bunker videos make even less sense when you consider all the bad knees and backs and obesity present among Jehovah's witnesses. I'm serious. My mother can't exactly run up and down stairs or climb a ladder... Logistically it's a complete joke. (But I know, Jehovah would help them, etc.)

We were all betrayed however, these folk who sacrificed their entire lives to being JW's were, IMO, robbed the most. Where can they go to now?

When I became a JW in 1973 I thought the congregation contained a number of sincere, decent, people. More than a few were reasonably intelligent and really trying to serve God. I still thought that way when I left in 1988, but had added "deluded" to that list. They all thought the end was coming "soon." I wonder what those people think now when they turn out the lights at night.

Deep inside, it must hurt knowing you gave your life to a lie. Issues like pedophiles are salt in the wound. I feel sorry for them.

Yeah I had a similar question.

Just exactly how much of a stash of Xanax will be necessary for a group of 20 or so JWs to hide out in a basement indefinitely? Gotta be a couple dozen cartons, at least.

Then there were the talks about not thinking about the possible torture or other hardships we might have to face. But how could you not? It's like being told, "Don't think of an elephant."
