...particularly because they have a significant personal stake in said buying (remember, without the WTS, these guys would be nothing).
It's called "compartmentalization".
Politicians are especially good at it.
Not to mention that - as I've said many times - True Belief in one's own infallibility/destiny/genius is an easy habit to fall into when you surround yourself solely with people who are never allowed to disagree with you.
