  It really doesn't make sense to try to make small children sit at attention for a couple of hours, or longer at assemblies when in fact the adults usually don't understand what is being taught either.

  I got spankings in the early years and whippings after about 9 until about 12 or 13, always with a belt or a switch, not bare hands, but never any at the KH. My dad chose to discipline me at home. I am on of the opinion that corporal punishment can be effective for some children (for others it won't work or you just never have to use it with them) if administered in the right manner. I know a lot of people disagree with that these days. I remember that when they remodeled the KH I attended while growing up, they built a room where one of the stated purposes was for taking children that needed to be spanked. The KH is still there. It has two theocratic school rooms for a second and third school, a library/office where the elders usually met for meetings and this one room that only had a chair in it the last time I went there. I suppose they may have stated some other reason for having that room, but I can't remember any other stated purpose. I remember them joking about parents not having to take their children out into the cold to spank them. That did seem a bit overboard. The room wasn't particulary good for this. It was closer to the audience than either of the two school rooms or the bathrooms so if a parent chose to use it, everyone got a earful of the child howling.

  The hall I grew up going to was actually a remodled dance hall. Really kind-of a cool place when you were a kid. Had an upstairs that had a few rooms that we used for service meetings, etc, and also had this giant room that used to be a the dance hall....wooden floors, the whole deal. Only it was fire damaged, and never really fixed, so it was nice and spooky when you were a kid. The place also had a REALLY spooky basement w/ a baptism pool that never got used, and lots of burnt out staircases and dark rooms.

  Anyhow, I digress....as far as the spankings go, this hall had a huge room adjacent to the women's restroom. The elder's always called it the "nursing room" (it was full of comfy couches and had a big changing table built into the wall), but, it really was the "beat the hell out of your kids" room. It was far enough away from the auditorium, so you couldn't hear the kids screaming. Plently of women in that hall used that to their advantage. I remember being in the bathroom, and hearing the echos of kids getting the crap beat out of them.

  Luckily, my parents didn't really believe in spanking....one of the few witness parents that didn't, so I never really had the fear of that room that the other kids did. But, I remember seeing kids herded down the ailse back towards the bathrooms, and thinking "ooh, they're going to get it".

  Blondie, I got this repeatedly as a child. Children CANNOT help but cry when they're feeling pain. I was confused as hell when my mother would hit me, I'd start crying, then she's say "Shut up or you're gonna get it again".

  There was a incident that happened when I was 7 years old. Me and my mother were at the park in the winter time. She was pulling me around the skating rink on the toboggan and accidently ramed the toboggan into a concrete bridge - including my knee. I cried like hell, and I got that famous line, "Shut up or you're gonna get it!". My mother figures that this incident is the reason why I have bad arthritis in my left knee, and she tells me how worried and concerned she was about me when this happened. I hate it when she tells me this.

  Gadget, I remember when one of my mom's JW friends gave her a backscratcher made from bamboo. My mother specifically told me, "Now I have something to beat you with, and it won't break". She used it, and one day it did break. That was a happy day for me.

  One thing that I remember is when a child was getting hauled off to the bathroom for a beating was the other children looking, and you could just tell that they were concerned about the kid, but yet they were worried that it wouldn't happen to them on that particular meeting.

  I remember getting beating outside of the hall pretty often. My father was an elder and would take his belt off and beat me with it right outside the hall, sometimes he would take me out the side door if it was closer.

  I too remember the whole "stop crying or I will beat you again".

  Then of course I would get it at home too if my behavior was "poor" at the KH.

  It was just a normal thing to see at my Hall.

  My ex used to pinch the girls with his nails. When I would be getting them ready for bed at night I would find all these little nail marks on their arm of body. We used to have such fights about it but he never stopped.
