  Two questions from this fascinating period of JW history persist. (1) Which is it.. were they in a ``sackclloth and ashes" condition as the Two Witnesses of Revelation because of experiencing a divine chastisement, or were they being rewarded with an appointment as the Faithful and Discreet Slave because of the quality of the spirutal food they were dispensing at the time? And (2) how could Rutherford's removal of the offending pages of The Finished Mystery be regarded as anything other than a shameful caving in to Satan's governmental agents?

  Amazing,The Finished Mystery,was written by Clayton J. Woodworth,who claimed to talk with the Demons,and George H. Fisher.The directors did not even know that Rutherford was going to publish the book when he did.The directors four of them were dismissed by Rutherford,July 17,1917.The day that Rutherford presented the book to the headquarters staff.

  Hi Blue,

  Yes, Fisher and Woodworth wrote the book ... Rutherford personally reviewed it on the Train from San Diego, CA back to New York. He and several Society officers met in Hammond, Indiana to review the proofs with the printing company they contracted to producer the initial copies ... so these directors knew more than they or Rutherford let on.

  I believe that I stopped at Part 5a of the Trial, or shortly thereafter, because there seemed to be a lack of interest in the topic at the time ... so I need to finish this because it is a most fascinating trial.

  Jim,

  I'm confused by your timeline. Congress did not declare war on Germany until April 1917. Remember President Wilson was re-elected in November 1916 on the platform of "He kept us out of war." The event which triggered the declaration was the resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare by Germany. This happened in February of 1917.

  Were the Watchtower leaders under investigation in 1916 prior to the war declaration?
