Narkissos, I looked all over Le Figaro web site and Le Monde and could not find the reports you mention.

Je ne peut pas les trouve! Please post the direct links.

    Gerard,

I found the articles by the link you gave earlier in this thread. Unfortunately they don't appear anymore (this is a daily page), and I could not find them in the archives either.
What I remember is that they didn't mention Chirac, but Pasqua (inter alia), and that the date of the documents was 1998 (so hardly related with recent developments). I haven't read anything else about it. When I find something on a French source I'll let you know.

    Yerusalyim,

See, the problem with this is that it's now being shown that Chirac was bribed, however, it can't be shown that we invaded for oil....this is an old, tired and unproven agruement. When the US starts shipping oil out of Iraq without paying for it...let me know.

Is it necessary for us to resort to blatant theft to prove that we went into Iraq because they control a large share of the worlds oil reserves? If you can't the see the action as nothing more than simple colonialism them I guess we just don't see eye to eye on this issue.

AND ... the list also contains top Al Qaeda operatives being given oil for their services ... now, what does Al Qaeda do best? Mmmmm ... BOMB BUILDING? Could it Beeeeeeeee!!! No, nice little Al Qaeda and innocent lil ol' Saddam would never do that ... Why we know cause Goerge Bush is EVIL ... and how do we know this? Because the LEFT says so, and we must believe the Left, because they care more than we do. Must be, just must be so.

Latest reports confirm Saddam bribed a boatload of people, including Americans, Europeans, middle Eastern and more specifically, Iraqis.

This is neither a left nor right issue, it is an issue of lack of ethics and greed. These two unsavory characteristics know no racial, ethnic or national affiliation. Rather they can infiltrate any members of a population, zeroing in on individuals with little or no moral capacity.

I finaly found a small note in the Le Figaro ASrchives. There are 4 Frenchmen implied in the Iraqi documents but the abstract only mentions 3 (one mu$s pay to see the whole thing)::

Les filières de l'argent de Saddam
    Georges MALBRUNOT
    Longueur : Long ( 1483 mots )
chefs d'Etat. Quatre noms de Français ont été cités par le journal irakien : Charles Pasqua

    ; l'homme d'affaires Patrick Maugein ; Michel Grimard, président de l'Association d'amitié...

The danger of falling for dirty tricks ...

Gallaway has received libel damages and an apology for the accusations that he was bribed by Saddam. This was just dirty tricks by *someone* who didn't like people objecting to their war.
