Over on BeliefNet, a dub posted this:

    http://www.formulism.org/news.html

Its a resolution presented to the UN to ban religion. They're all excited over the prospect! Sad really.

Freedom from Religion | Proposed UN Resolution / Charter Amendment | Version 1.1 WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS HEREBY VOW * to save succeeding generations from the scourge of organised religion, a folly which has brought untold sorrow to mankind through the division, hatred and conflict it engenders, and * to reaffirm an individual's right to freedom of belief, freedom of conscience and freedom of prayer, and * to establish conditions under which these freedoms can be privately exercised. AND FOR THESE ENDS WE UNDERTAKE 1. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the public expression of religious beliefs, including the use of symbols, clothing or markings which are synonymous with any currently or previously existing religions. 2. To outlaw, with immediate effect, public acts of worship or religious declaration. 3. To outlaw, with immediate effect, private gatherings of three or more people for the purposes of engaging in acts of worship or religious services. 4. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the publication of books, literature or articles which seek to promote religious beliefs or encourage adherence to religious doctrine. 5. To outlaw, after a period of amnesty, the personal ownership of books or materials which seek to promote religious beliefs or encourage adherence to religious doctrine. (Books of academic or social interest will be made freely available to schools, universities and public libraries). 6. To outlaw, with immediate effect, the celebration of religiously significant dates. 7. To begin, with immediate effect, the destruction or reassignment of predominantly religious buildings, such as churches, mosques and temples. (c) Copyright 2004, formulism.org. All rights reserved.

I seriously doubt that anything like this would be inacted. It would be a major violation of freedom of thought and conscience.

Anyway, the UN does not have the power to pass a "law" like this... or any other "law". All it can do is pass "resolutions".

This is not something the UN drew up... the formulism people drew it up and mailed it to the UN and then posted a copy on their personal web site. It's bull sht.

Posted on the site was this comment from Spitfire:

I searched the UN site ?freedom of religion? and explored a little history on how the Commission on Human Rights PROTECTS freedom of religion:

Since 1987, the Commission on Human Rights Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief has considered incidents and governmental actions in all parts of the world inconsistent with the provisions of the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief and has recommended remedial measures for such situations. Since then, a report has been submitted every year to the Commission on Human Rights and, since 1994, to the General Assembly.

In 2001, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration, the rapporteur?s title was changed from ?Special Rapporteur on religious intolerance? to ?Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief?. The Special Rapporteur?s competence was thus no longer confined to expressions of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief, but extended to all issues relating to freedom of religion or belief, whether operational activities to deal with intolerance and discrimination or activities to prevent them.

Resolution 2002/40 of 23 April 2002, of the Commission on Human Rights deals with freedom of religion or belief . All the activities carried out as part of the Special Rapporteur?s mandate fall into two basic areas of concern: operational activities to deal with intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief; and prevention of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief.

The website posted by Bibleman is one groups? opinion. The KKK has an opinion, so does the Nation of Islam? but that doesn?t mean their views or opinions will be adopted on a worldwide scale.

RHW is correct, anyone can propose ANYTHING to the UN, but it certainly doesn?t mean it will be adopted as apart of the UN Charter or Mandate.

    Interesting...

Biblically speaking, according to the Bible, indeed, the UN will take over world government in a big with with the US, Russia and Japan giving up sovereignty along with all other nations. But the Biblical reference to be noted is that the WTS ("the false prophet" and Lamb-Dragon Beast) along with the rest of Christendom are destroyed with a quick pitch "while still alive". Thus they will be active right up to the last moment it would seem and destroyed quickly. Yet it doesn't appear this is an action consistent with when the nations are destroyed.

Thus how is it that religion could be destroyed so quickly? The UN banning all religion certainly is consistent with a quick pitch into the ocean like a stone. The other idea is the religion dying a slow death of it's own accord which is not consistent with scripture.

Certainly drastic circumstances will prevail at the time the UN takes over world government and freedom of expressed religion might just be part of that which would fulfill a quick and instant death.

So you might be on to something there.

Interesting the term "peace and security" are likewise associated with this last drastic action. Finally a non-religious, totally political state.

Not saying this is how it will happen exactly but this scenario is consistent with the scriptures saying that "while still alive" religion will be destroyed instantly. I can't imagine that happening without a mandate of some sort.

What a tribulation this will be, though, for those holding onto the WTS!!!!

On the other hand, it seems quite interesting the forethought in which Christ's anointed members through the "JIOR" are organized. They are depicted as the woman who gives birth to the child in Revelation who "has a place prepared for her by God" in the wilderness. Thus a secret society. Thus any ban on religion would not affect any "secret society" who don't have any public symbols or meeting places.

Chronologically, therefore, it would appear, since there is just a "time and a season" (one year 3 months) given to the nations to survive the destruction of Babylon the Great ("the fourth beast") that this quick pitch into the lake by Christ will be at the same time Babylon the Great is destroyed, also said to be thrown into the sea with a quick pitch!

    So this could be real.

Of course, on a desperate and practical side of things, obviously a non-religious world would be a step to mankind having peace and security because people fight or little else. I can't imagine this going down without a fight though. Those already "worshipping" as part of secret societies, though, have no fear of this and, in fact, God's preparing them for this seems apparent. It will thus only affect "false religion" and not the true.

The woman of Revelation is "away from the face of Satan" which means cannot be seen by his spy organizations either. He disgorges a river after her, meaning propaganda to try to drown her, but her knowledge in Biblical and other research is too concrete to be overcome by these rivers of pseudo-sciecntific and historical propaganda and the "earth" swallows up the river; that is, their Biblical and scientific knowledge are more concrete than the watery propaganda.

Thanks for this post. Interesting. The details of the end of the world seem to be focusing into place as the reality moves in line with the theory and prophecy.

I can see it happening . Religion has been nothing but a scourge to mankind since day one . The US for one would love to end the hatred of muslims for christians by banning all of it . The bible clearly says tho that God would put the thought into the minds of men to destroy the harlot ( which is false religion). The russians are making steps in that direction . The chinese and communist nations have already done it . It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the UN passed a resolution like that one.

C64 is short for Commodore 64. It was a computer in a key board. A BBS was something that people could dial into using their modem and post messages and trade programs.

Back in the day only one person could be online at a time... dial in, do your business, hang up and someone else could then dial in.

Blind Zebra--- Yes I do believe the harlot to be false religion or unfaithful christianity. The bible uses the term harlot many times refering to ancient Isreal when it fell into apostasy and also in the new testament referring to unchaste christians . Where as inocent virgins are conceived to be associated with pure worship . I think alot of things are leading to the collapse of the religious scene but the main thing is that they will receive the judgement from God for teaching falsehoods . I can't say how it will all go down but in this world of atheists think it will happen in my lifetime should I live a normal life expectancy.

    - Peace and security is what fundamentalist religion does say to itself

    - The whore is is simply possession

    - The imaginary beast is the product of fundamentalist religion, being 'god' manifest telling you what you have to do to avoid being killed

United nations ? no doubt some people believe the x-files are documentary material too - it's an American thing - the conspiracy mindset - goes a long way. Sooo
