On the one hand , if their is a disaster , a natural occurrence such as an earthquake , tsunami , tornadoes etc, the witness Armageddon barometer kicks in .Many fence sitters , relatives etc. flock to the nearest K.H. for a time.

    On the other hand ,

Because of the information that is now available on the internet ,Child abuse scandals ,Govt. investigations /Charitable status ,questions many people are leaving the organization .

It`s a to & fro motion that goes on .in a never ending cycle .

Disasters happen an influx in numbers proving Jehovah`s blessing

Bad publicity a decrease in numbers proves Bible is true

When the increase occurs its because of Jehovah`s blessing his one true religion

When a decrease occurs it`s fulfilling scripture prophecy " In the last days the love of the greater number will cool off "

So the J.W.`s have an each way bet on whatever happens

How do you reason with that kind of logic.?

So I think they will still be around for a long time yet .

Many sects 'stay around' - the JW religion features far more in the mind of those who WERE members or ARE members - to the average neighbour in your 'hood' they are simply known to not celebrate certain things like Xmas, and they don't donate or receive blood...

Organized religion is barnacle-like in its stickability. And just as barnacles don't use sweet reason to stick to things, organized religion doesn't either.

For example, the heyday of Christadelphians was several long decades ago, but there remains a solid core of loyalty to that millenialist movement which ensures their quaint little halls remain dotted throughout the land and reasonably well attended.

So, yes, JWs will be around for some time to come. But it looks pretty certain their growth heyday in the West is long over.

What will be open to screeds of speculation is the ultimate form their organization will take as the current decade passes - especially their ongoing reconfiguring of their central doctrine, the 1914 generation.

Jump forward to 2026: Don't expect a sudden lurch among (remaining active) members to 'reason' intelligently on the significance of 1914.

But do expect greater dropping off of zeal and a settling into a less urgent lifestyle.

David Splane predicted as much with his chart and the 2 F. Franzes overlapping. steve2 : "2026?" -- that is only 20% to the projected end of the anointed era of the wt, and then the OS GC period is slated to start, in ~2075.

It is about time for the next recession, which sends them scurrying back. It will be interesting to watch how the next recession affects Watchtower. With their current financial concerns, any increase of people that are financially struggling will possibly not be desired.

I just look at the fact Bible Students (Russellites) are still around.

    They have conventions still.

This cult is a brain virus.
