    What the hell was that?

    If members in the WTS are not trying to make any politicial in roads etc. then why in the hell did the WTS voluntarily agree to support the UN Charter, which allows for war?

    Clearly the 1991 WT rag shows that only false religion allows for their NGOs to partner with the beast. That's what the leadership stated, Plain and simple. And it is a violation for a true "Christian: subject to marking or disfellowshipping.

    For you to come on this board and provide misleading information without any factual back up is disgusting.

    I don't know where have you got your "facts" from but i do know the official Watchtower Society would not make politics. Once again, the only contacts with the UN or it's member states are made simply for progressing the Bible truth and ensuring the freedom of worship in witch may include some humanitarian action in some cases, like learning people to read (in 3rd nations). Interviewing and having discussions with political leaders for Watchtower and Awake! -magazines are not political acts eighter :)

    If you don't believe it you may call WTS hq in New York. There will be no-one to backup your story. Seems you've got things all wrong or you're just a victim of lies and false ducumentations.

    drlove, what is false about the WTS being an NGO for ten years? Being an NGO clearly states that you adhere to all of the United Nations charter & it also means that you agree to assist them with distributing information that supports the United Nations...

    drlove,

    CRITERIA FOR ASSOCIATION
    WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION

      a) The NGO must support and respect the principles of the Charter of the United Nations; [see Articles 42-44 below]
      b) The NGO must be of recognized national or international standing;
      c) The NGO should operate solely on a non-for-profit basis and have tax-exempt status;
      d) The NGO must have the commitment and the means to conduct effective information programmes with its constituents and to a broader audience about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets; organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; or enlisting the attention of the media; [see my comments below]
      e) The NGO should have an established record of continuity of work for a minimum of three years and should show promise of sustained activity in the future;
      f) The NGO should have a satisfactory record of collaboration with UN Information Centres/Services or other parts of the UN System prior to association;
      g) The NGO should provide an audited annual financial statement, conducted by a qualified, independent accountant;
      h) The NGO should have statutes/bylaws providing for a transparent process of taking decisions, elections of officers and members of the Board of Directors.

      Article 42
      Should the Security Council consider that measures provided for in Article 41 would be inadequate or have proved to be inadequate, it may take such action by air, sea, or land forces as may be necessary to maintain or restore international peace and security. Such action may include demonstrations, blockade, and other operations by air, sea, or land forces of Members of the United Nations.

      Article 43
      All Members of the United Nations, in order to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security, undertake to make available to the Security Council, on its call and in accordance with a special agreement or agreements, armed forces, assistance, and facilities, including rights of passage, necessary for the purpose of maintaining international peace and security.

      Such agreement or agreements shall govern the numbers and types of forces, their degree of readiness and general location, and the nature of the facilities and assistance to be provided.

      The agreement or agreements shall be negotiated as soon as possible on the initiative of the Security Council. They shall be concluded between the Security Council and Members or between the Security Council and groups of Members and shall be subject to ratification by the signatory states in accordance with their respective constitutional processes.

      Article 44
      When the Security Council has decided to use force it shall, before calling upon a Member not represented on it to provide armed forces in fulfilment of the obligations assumed under Article 43, invite that Member, if the Member so desires, to participate in the decisions of the Security Council concerning the employment of contingents of that Member's armed forces.

    Criteria a) comments

    Support for these principles should be a problem for any religion. Support and respect for the Charter means that they agree that military force should be used. Interestingly the UN attempts to use military force to bring about peace and security. A clear contradiction in the Watchtower principles.

    Criteria c) comments

    As an NGO, the Watchtower was required to advertise (?publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets; organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; or enlisting the attention of the media?) for the UN. Given the Watchtower?s attitude toward the UN, it is extremely hypocritical for the Watchtower to promote the UN in this manner. To deny that the Watchtower crossed the line is somewhat unbelievable.

    Utter B.S. and a big time lie by omission

    Lets looks at this quote from here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/27169/1.ashx :

    Watchtower magazine of June 1, 1991 pages 15-20 Their Refuge-A Lie!

    10 However, she has not done so. Instead, in her quest for peace and security, she insinuates herself into the favor of the political leaders of the nationsthis despite the Bibles warning that friendship with the world is enmity with God. (James 4:4) Moreover, in 1919 she strongly advocated the League of Nations as mans best hope for peace. Since 1945 she has put her hope in the United Nations. (Compare Revelation 17:3, 11.) How extensive is her involvement with this organization?

    11 A recent book gives an idea when it states: No less than twenty-four Catholic organizations are represented at the UN. Several of the worlds religious leaders have visited the international organization. Most memorable were the visits of His Holiness Pope Paul VI during the General Assembly in 1965 and of Pope John Paul II in 1979. Many religions have special invocations, prayers, hymns and services for the United Nations. The most important examples are those of the Catholic, the Unitarian-Universalist, the Baptist and the Bahai faiths.

    Mad Apostate found the quote in paragraph 11 in "Prayer And Meditation At The United Nations"-- Robert Muller "

    "Prayer, meditation and spirituality at the UN are fascinating subjects. All major world religions are accredited to the United Nations as non-governmental organizations. For example, no less than twenty-four Catholic organizations are represented at the UN. Several of the world's religious leaders have visited the international organization. It is a common practice of the Unitarian-Universalists to display the United Nations flag in their houses of worship. So does the Holy Family Church, the parish church of the UN, with its international reliquary and its many religious services and activities catering to world peace and to the international community.

    This was a great find by Mad Apostate. The title of the book is "New Genesis, Shaping a Global Spirituality" (ISBN # 1-680465-04-3), Garden City, New York, Doubleday, Image Books, 1982, 1984. The Muller article ("Prayer And Meditation At The United Nations") is found in Part 1, Chapter 6, pages 45 to 49 of the Book. Note the quote found in the June 1, 1991 Watchtower article is at the start of the Muller essay on page 45, paragraph 1.

    Mad Apostate stated the following with respect to this issue:

    This "Study Article", published in the June 1, 1991 issue, would have come out at almost the exact same time they were putting together the Application for NGO affiliation, which was approved in (July?) 1992.

    Read the article carefully, and then explain why this sentence was left out of the quote: "All major world religions are accredited to the United Nations as non-governmental organizations."

    Would not this sentence actually make the quote (thus the point) even stronger?

    It's exclusion can only be interpreted as intentional, and if so, WHY???

    The editor(s) knew that they too were seeking the exact same relationship with the U.N.!!!

    Now Lets look at this quote from the Watchtower magazine76/12/1 711 Can an Image Bring Peace and Security? :

    The WT of 1976 was also just as clear. Here - let me restate the key portions from the 1976 article for you:

    ... Do they act like the harlot, "Babylon the Great"?....

    ... Sixteen Catholic international organizations contribute formally to the work of ECOSOC and various Specialized Agencies through the medium of consultative status with these bodies, and Catholic groups and individuals in various countries contribute to the formation of national policy and action with regard to the UN.??Vol. 14, p. 423.

    Will all such friendliness with the world be of real benefit to any religious system? No, the Bible declares that ?Babylon the Great,? the harlotrous religious empire, will experience a great shock. Revelation 17:16 says: ?The ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire.?

    So there is real danger in becoming involved with the ?scarlet-colored wild beast.? Never will it bring real peace and security ....

    ... For that reason those who join in any U.N. cry of ?Peace and security!? face disaster, even if they are not in sympathy with ?Babylon the Great.?

    Are you acting in harmony with this advance knowledge? Have you separated yourself from the world?s ways, attitudes and actions?...

    Clearly being like one of the 16 NGOs would be considered by the 1976 Watchtower as becoming involved with the beast - and that was and still is a big time no no.

    Now lets look at this from Hooberus http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/55894/1.ashx:

    Watchtower 1976 10/15 632-6

    The "mark" of the beast would identify the one having it as belonging to that "wild beast," giving it full support. Ellicott's Bible Commentary notes that the mark 'surely means the acquiescence to the principals of this tyrannical world-power.'

    In modern times, the Christain body, known world wide as Jehovah's Witnesses, has experienced from the "wild beast" the same things as first-century Christians. Take the African county of Malawi, for example. There all citizens have been required to become members of the country's only existing political party, the "Malawi Congress Party." A membership card costing about twenty-five cents (U.S.) identifies the bearer as 'acquiescing to the principals of the ruling political party,' . . .

    As Jehovah's Witnesses they value their relationship to God and Christ above everything else. Were they to identify themselves as giving unquestioning support to any politcal arrangement, they would be acting contrary to the Bible's teaching that all human governmental systems exist by God's toleration only until such time as he chooses to replace them by his kingdom in the hands of Jesus Christ. (Dan. 2:44; 7:13, 14) Jehovah's Witnesses have promised to give unqualified allegiance exclusively to God and Christ. Any act on their part that would indicate otherwise, therefore, would be an act of disloyalty. Such an act would be taking away from God and Christ their rightful due and would be worship fo the "wild beast."

    No matter how insignificant the act required may seem, a Christian's engaging in such worship would mean his being disloyal to God and Christ.

    Comments: In order to get the insignificant twenty-five cent Malawi poltical card an applicant would be 'acquiescing to the principals of the ruling polital party" they would by receiving this card act be taking the mark of the beast, because in order to get the card they would have to indicate that they support and acquiescing to the principals of the political entity.

    The Watchtower in order to receive their "card" had to register as an NGO and agree to:

    a) The NGO must support and respect the principles of the Charter of the United Nations;

    Finally lets look at the letter from Paul Hoeffel of the UN and Steve Bates Tablet articles where the WTS voluntarily agreed to support a UN Charter that allows for war under Chapter 7 (which is a disfellowshipping/disassociating offence - http://www.un.org/aboutun/charter/chapter7.htm

    http://www.thetablet.co.uk/cgi-bin/archive_db.cgi?tablet-00577

    http://www.randytv.com/secret/unfax.jpg

    Conclusion:

    The WTSB&TS is still presently an NGO and it was "accredited" between Feb. 14, 1992 until October 9, 2001 with the United Nations' Department of Public Information. Thus, as per the 1991and 1976 Watchtower magazines, the WTS was practicing in the same way as all the rest of false religion.

    Enough said

    Being an NGO clearly states that you adhere to all of the United Nations charter & it also means that you agree to assist them with distributing information that supports the United Nations...

    WTS sure follows international laws if it's not against God's will (Romans 13:1). Assisting the UN under international laws is not making politics. It's the same as we are being oblicated to tell the truth in court. We do that simply cause we honour the state law and order.

    Support for these principles should be a problem for any religion. Support and respect for the Charter means that they agree that military force should be used. Interestingly the UN attempts to use military force to bring about peace and security. A clear contradiction in the Watchtower principles.

    WTS would definitely not support any charter allowing to use military force against anyone.

    Dr. Love,

    If the WT did not affiliate itself with the UN, why does this link show that the WT submitted articles to the United Nations Department of Public Information? Compare the name of the article in the second row with the corresponding issue of Awake! magazine to ensure they are indeed, the same.

    Link: http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/materials/articles.htm

    Dr. Love, I welcome you to the board. May your eyes be opened.

    Are we on the same planet?

    WTS would definitely not support any charter allowing to use military force against anyone.

    Do you remember Gulf War 1 and Korea? Those were UN actions per Chapter 7 of the UN Charter which the WTS "voluntarily agreed" to support.

    Read Hoeffels' letter and the WTS response which admits they did partner - they just admit for other reasons that you cited (ie. library card) without thinking of what they wrote in 1991 and 1976 and without thinking that the criteria had been established back in 1968 by ECOSOC.

    Also,

    Here is the news article that broke the story open:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,574134,00.html

    Here is the UN Press Release from the year the WT was admitted as an NGO.

    Link: http://www.geocities.com/wts_rides_the_beast/aug92dpic.jpg

    Here is a letter from the UN affirming the WT affiliation as an NGO:

    Link: http://www.geocities.com/wts_rides_the_beast/un_confirms_wts_assoc.jpg

    Here is another: http://www.randytv.com/secret/unmarchletter.jpg

    Here are some more articles the WT wrote in praise of the UN:

    Link: http://www.randytv.com/secret/united_nations_2001.htm

    Here is a press release which shows the WT participating as an NGO in a Helsinki conference: (Notice that they participated in this with their friends, the Church of Scientology)

    Link: http://www.greekhelsinki.gr/english/pressrelease/ngo-petition-23-10-2000-osce2000.html

    Here is a letter from the Jehovah's Witnesses Office of Public Information admitting their affiliation: http://www.jwinfoline.com/reference/stephenbates/letter_gillies_to_bates.htm

    As you will note, they claim they joined in order to get a library card. That is patently false. Library cards were not required for admission to the UN Campus Library, also known as: Dag Hammarskjold.

    Link to UN Library: http://www.un.org/Depts/dhl/

    This link shows that there are also Depository Libraries the WT could have used - and at least one of them is closer to Brooklyn than the UN Campus itself.

    Link: http://www.un.org/Depts/dhl/deplib/index.html

    When you get finished with these, let me know. There are a lot more where these came from.

    Yes i'm confused but maybe not the way you'd think :)

    I guess "non-governmental" says it all. WTS's intention has never been to partisipate in making politics in the UN. The purposes for WTS to use the UN's library or other facilities has been to promote the spreading of the Bible thuth by being aware whats going on in the world. WTS has since it's founding cooperated with several institutions, even political, to collect and change information, to keep the Bible truth heard. Working in the name of religious rights can no way been seen as making politics.

    God himself is about to use the UN to destroy false religion, so why wouldn't WTS use it somehow to make God's word known? UN is a worldwide institution and Jehovah may use nations behind it for his own purposes if He chooses so (thou Satan's rulership over the whole world), (Romans 13:1b). WTS has to operate with these institutions and try to follow international laws as close as possible. But ist's duty tell about God's plans about the earth, not to drive polical issues.(John 18:36)

    As WTS announced, they cancelled that so called "NGO" deal after the UN had made big changes into it, making it look like an oblication to stand behind all goals of the UN, including political.
