"Lost in Translation" (with Bill Murray)

While I was away on a recent road trip I had the opportunity to nip into a cinema to kill a couple of hours. Having see everything I wanted to see, during the week, I decided to watch the only thing that was starting at that time "Lost in Translation". I didn't know anything about it, other than that it was going to help me bide my time, away from home.

I groaned inwardly, when I saw Bill Murray hit the screen, as I'm not especially a fan.
However, I was deeply moved by what was portrayed, along with the Japanese neo-cultural explosion that was evidenced.

I hope this doesn't mean I'm reaching a mid-life crisis, however I found it profoundly disturbing.

Hey, I can't understand either of you. There must be something lost in the translation.

I haven't seen the movie. I hear it's good. Andy and I are wanting to go see it.

I just watched it also. Great film...I totally agree with you. I found I could identify with the Bill Murray character somewhat in a few areas. There was a lot of subtle humor too - like the wife who you only ever heard on the phone, and the ongoing conversation about the carpet samples. Our lives become routine pretty fast after we have children.

    hi there badwillie....how are things???

my wife and I watched the movie....thought it was absolutely brilliant. Bill Murray has been on top of his game for the last 5 years or so....if you haven't seen Rushmore or The Royal Tennenbaums, rent them right away. But Lost in Translation was perfect...the acting - Scarlett Johansson was perfect, as was Murray. The music perfectly fit every scene - much like Sofia Coppola's first movie, The Virgin Suicides....brilliant

I thought it was a good movie about that feeling you get when you're out of sorts. It doesn't have to be just a geography difference. You're in a place you don't know or understand. You reach out to connect to somebody to make sense of it. Two people at the same time needed the same thing, so they connect. It's not going to be permanent but it's going to do for now.

I thought the film did a good job of making me feel what the characters were feeling. It's very leisurely paced and I didn't think it was the masterpiece that people are crowing about, but I thought it was good.
