Hi. I'm lonely. I think I said that already. Not much to do here in Togo. Can't even think of anything to say to start some sort of interesting conversation so that I could post replies and 'talk' to people.

What am I doing in Togo? Am I really in Togo? (In case you guys think I'm full of ...) Yes, I am in Togo. I work here (got here in September 2003, after doing 2 years in Uganda -- back when I posted on here as Freedomrules) and will be here until September 2005.

Married, 2 kids. Just found out one more on the way. Ex-JW (fader, hence the new name). My dad was disfellowshipped last summer (I posted about that in July of last year when I was Freedomrules). He's getting reinstated soon, they tell me.

Oh well, nothing much more to say. The time difference makes it difficult for me to reply to most of your stateside posters...

    Sigh,

    Lucia

Just as a matter of interest what is the time difference on Greenwich Mean Time - Universal Standard Time --- or to Eastern Standard Time if you prefer? BTW I hope you are feeling a littel better soon. AGAPE

EST + 5, I'm not sure about GMT. We're an hour ahead of Paris (or behind, I can never remember). I know we're five hours ahead of Washington, DC. Right now, it's 1515 in Togo.

Congrats on the future newcomer to your family. My cousin is doing work in Burundi right now - yikes, not a place I'd want to be! What are things like in Togo?

    Take care,

(((( hi fader))) thats why we're here! the good thing about this board is that they'll always be someone up- i'm on into the early hours sometimes, the time difference won't really be a problem

-what do you like doing ? do you get a chance to meet new people now you're out? I hope you're ok and don't worry, adapting to life outside ofth organisation takes time.

Hey, Lucia, here's a cyber cuddle (((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))

    How'd you feel now?!

As has already been said - there's always someone here to talk to.

Take care of that family of yours.

    Best wishes,

    Ian

Hi guys! Thanks for the messages, made me feel good.

So, how's Togo? Well, it's a tiny little sliver of a country, sandwiched between Ghana and Benin, right on the Atlantic Ocean. It's a pretty country, and the people are very nice. It's francophone, but I speak French so that's okay. President Eyadema has been in power 37 years (lucky me I got to go to the parade marking the 37th anniversary on January 13. It lasted 6 grueling hours) and the country is highly corrupt. rule of law, democracy, etc --- non-existent. Right now it's aroudn 85 degrees F outside. There isn't much to do here, like I said in my first e-mail. I work all day, go home and see my children, then go right back to work. sometimes we go to the beach, but the undertow is horrible and I'm not a big fan of the ocean, particularly not since the plane crash in Cotonou, Benin last month.

For work reasons, I had to go to Cotonou to help locate and identify bodies, many of which were fished out of the Ocean (and some of which washed up on shore here in Lome a week later) so long story short I don't care to go into the ocean. There are some restaurants around, some of which are quite good, but mostly when I have free time (rare nowadays) I hang out at home with my kids, read and watch movies.

    Hi fader!

Hey, if you need to chat, no problem, well help ya out.

Humm, sorry about the plane crash job, that sounds horrific.

But the speaking french part and 85 F weather sounds nice

When I got into my car this morning, the car thermometer read -10 F

    That's WITHOUT the windchill!!!

    with windchill we're at -20F -30F.

Whatever happened to that whole global warming thing?

I've been at work for almost an hour now, and my feet and fingers are still cold.

    Man I hate this weather

    Paul [Winston.]
