Mehlisue , In my awakening period which did take a long time ,I read a book written by an ex Jesuit priest whose name I just can`t remember ,though I know he was married and lived in the suburb of Ivanhoe Melbourne Victoria Australia .

I remember this bit of info because at one time I too lived there .

If I remember correctly the title of the book was , "The rise And Decline Of Christendom " It had a profound effect on me as I could relate to what he was going through in his crisis of faith even though he was Catholic and I was a Jehovah`s Witness.

It was a book I picked up at a Library and making contact with that library didn`t get me anywhere.I`m trying other avenues now to see if I have any luck.I would love to read it again now that I am fully out and free of religion .

Welcome to this forum , its a great site I hope you stick around.

    Thanks for your post Melinda

Cofty - many thanks for the video - although I'm not a fan of Catholicism, I wasn't too negative about their charities but have questioned last several yrs.

Christopher Hitchens is the greatest - so sad he's not around for debates (what a loss to the human race) today but he left us with more than enough. Terry use to make reference to him and I've not taken the time to listen much but everyone needs a vacay just for 'Hitch' YouTubes.

    Thanks.

One thing that the JW's got right:

"[All] religion is a snare and a racket!"

Only words ^^^^ of truth ever spoken by Rutherfraud (the inebriated loon) who professed to be a lawyer - yeah, right. Self made lawyer/charlatan. The Gov Goons today could have constructed a glass temple in Warwick (his booze bottles) for themselves overlooking their private nickel island (chemical lake).

I was raised Catholic up until 12 years old, then my parents became jw. Was a witness until 48, but during this time I could never stomach all of their teachings. And I remember that when you don't follow every belief, teaching, according to the jw way of thinking, there is something wrong with your spirituality.

When I walked away, I dealt with the same dilemma you are experiencing. I looked at other religions, and on my own studied what they believed, ( warning please don't join a free study or anything along that line). I noticed how each religion attempted to mold me into their line of thinking.

So at this point I have gone full circle. I attend Catholic services occasionally, and have gotten involved in several of their volunteer endeavors such as helping children dealing with problems, assisting elderly ones , and by experiencing the results from these opportunities I'm learning to develop my own personal relationship with God. Being spiritual I've discovered is something that comes from an individuals heart, not someone telling me what to do. Being involved to a certain extent with a religion helps keep me focused on what is important in life. Ceremonies, prayer, and readings pull me back to what I grew up with and make me realize what is important to me. Getting involved 110% like the witnesses way of living did was just so wrong, developing my own relationship with God is a wonderful thing. Good luck with your journey !

Good for you ,you have a caring attitude ,you care for people.

Many of these religions Catholic and protestant have programs that assist and help those less fortunate for one reason or another ,and even if it is a fault of their own bad choices they will still give a helping hand for these ones to help them .

NOT JEHOVAH`S WITNESSES , they are so Judgemental and uncarring for their fellow humans.

All they want is the destruction of 8+ billion people so they can sit under a grapevine and pet pandas.
