Loyal Jehivah's Witnesses cannot retire comfortably. They are programmed to believe the "end" is near and so there is no need for retirement. It makes me sooo mad! I made thus mistake and I honestly thought I was showing full trust in Jehovah by not havung a 401k at my job. I was praised for it. Since waking up, I have been planning for retirement. I lost a decade bit I still have a few more to fix up my retirement plan.

My parents have ZERO for retirement. Even though they are technically retired they still have to work as well as other faithful older JWs I know. They have always struggled and now even more. I just don't want that for me and my family.

Anyone recall WT view for Proverbs 30:25. The ant save part of all income to use later in life. They work hard when the getting is good, and with an eye to the future, they save for harder times. I believe they missed that lesson from the Bible..

Sophia will never save. Learn from Sophia. She is a good girl. Sophia makes Jehovah happy.

My faithful wife wants to spend my retirement account so bad she can taste it!

My faithful wife doesn't even know what's available in my retirement account. Suffice to say that it is enough that when I am able to retire in the next few years in our mid 50's, If I kick the bucket before she does, she's going to be thanking me for saving her from believing in that Jah will provide nonsense.

    Ahh.....hell....who am I kidding.

She'll probably be giving jehovah and the organization all the credit.

I'm not sure what the talk was trying to accomplish.

What the ORG calls a 'love of money' and 'materialism', other normal people call 'concern over basic needs and amenities', and 'modest financial protection for their family'.

This has been expressed before, but I can't get over the irony of building a religion dependent on folks who have the least to give.

JW's are literally taken to heart Matt.6:19-20, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasured on earth, where moth and rust destroys and where thieves break in and steel". Yes why save for the future, soon we will have our pick of any home, car (maybe not car but horse and buggy), beach location we choose.LOL

Well they had to put my mother in law in a home permanently. it is very hard on my wife. But we can not give out money and not damage our retirement. I don't want to seem hard but I feel that lack of preparation on someone elses part does not constitute an emergency on my part. I support my wife visiting often in fact we have not had a vacation in a couple of years. She takes her time off and spends it with her parents. I support that. But her father is giving a home and money to her sister younger who does not work at all.

My M-I-L is on her way to a similar shape as yours. Recently during a visit we had found that she has defecated on herself uncontrollably. She was trying to get herself cleaned up when we arrived. We are hoping that this is an aberation or a symptom of her having an upset stomach which is what she implied it was. She still imagines herself to be totally independent but the reality is she is totally dependent upon my wife's nearly every other day 60 mile round trip visits. Only time will tell.

I know some may think of me as being an ass for saying but, I knew that my wife taking charge her mother's affairs and elderly care would represent a major shift in our lifestyle as empty nester's and I insisted that she have her end of life paperwork in order to reflect the fact of said shift. She doesn't really have much, but, I was not interested in having our lives put on hold and then her brothers and sisters who, except when they need some financial support from her, have nothing to do with helping her swooping in and wanting to run things in the event of her death.
