Confession: I ate pizza

I have been on the South Beach Diet for almost 6 weeks, and have lost 11 pounds. I gained 2 during the week.................probably water weight, but was a bit discouraged, knowing I hadn't cheated.

Feeling miserable with my cold, Dave suggested I not cook Friday night and we could just order pizza. I am not supposed to eat pizza. But not cooking sounded so good, that I gave in. We also had huge salads and I ate two pieces from a medium size pizza. That's all I did, off the diet, and immediately got back on it.

Today I am down more than two more pounds, so still at an 11 pound loss. Weird. I wonder what would happen if I ate some candy??? (just kidding..............not even tempted, for some reason, I've lost that craving) The pizza was hard to resist though.

Doh! Just remember that one minor slipup doesn't negate your 6 weeks of hard work. Keep it up!!

You seem to be doing very well indeed. Two slices of pizza do not make you a sinner, so stop beating yourself over the head. Bug

    Hi Mulan,

Much success for your dieting! You know as far as "going off" a diet, pizza seems to me to be one of the less damaging choices. It won't set your blood sugar off on a roller coaster ride, it's satisfying and won't trigger lots of cravings later in my opinion.

    Good luck!

    Mulan,

Only two pieces? You did well! Just looking at that pie picture is making me crave one!! Mushroom pepperoni, Italian sausage ........ arrrrrghhhhh!

Keep up the good work, a little treat now and then won't hurt.

Two pieces of pizza isn't the end of the world. You satisfied your craving. You gave yourself a well-deserved treat. You didn't eat a whole pizza!!

There are some experts who contend that when your body becomes accustomed to eating consistently a certain way (à la any restrictive weight loss regimen) it becomes more efficient at storing any fat from what little you do consume. So they recommend tricking your body by giving it a boost from time to time, to speed up the metabolism and encourage fat burning instead of fat retention. Kind of the way some motorists believe that you improve your car's performance by alternating between low and high octane fuel. Some folks who use Weight Watchers do this using what they call the "Wendy Plan" to get them through plateaus.

That could be why your weight dropped after you had the pizza!

Although not on a formal diet, I do restrict my carbs. My weakness is pizza, too. And chips...so I buy Pringles and will have about 6 or 7 chips in the evening a couple times a week. I just can't totally give up my chips! But I have not ordered a pizza in months.........I miss it.

It's okay Mulan...just cut the pizza into a valentine shape and blame it on those Pagan celebrations..and the works of Satan and his fat demons.
