I have a friend who opened up a local bar , we live in a very small town, and she is trying to get the place up and running.

WildTurkey is helping her with running the pool tournaments and she told me I could do anything I wanted to , help myself to snacks , cokes ,beer , whatever. She said I could sit behind the bar if anyone bothered me . She even let me and another friend help her eat her crawfish.......talk about yummy stuff!!!

Well I got back there and since I have a tendency to be a little ,,,,,,,,,ummmmmmmmm hyper.. I had to do something. So I started going around asking if anyone wanted anything to snack on , to drink etc .etc. I cleaned ashtrays, wiped the bar, filled the beer tubs, crushed cans, learned to use a cash register, so many things in one night I have never done before.

I have always wondered if I could make it as a waitress, knowing how it can be slow at times and hectic at others.........well, i did pretty good, My friend asked me if I have done it before. I told her no, I have only worked with my dad and my hubby, and that was never around people.

I did this as a favor for her and her sister. Her sister was dead tired and not feeling well , and she was short handed. Since I was sitting there anyway, I told her I would help her, and to not worry about paying me anything. She thanked me and said that at least she wanted me to keep my tip money. I said no, I didnt need to do that ,but she insisted.

I got over $30 bucks in tips in just a few hours,,,,,,,,,,I have to say , I actually loved doing it.......I felt like I was taking care of my three kids( or plus 6 or 7 extra neighborhood kids) at dinner time. It was pretty fast paced and I really have the utmost respect for all those who work in serving others. It is just really neat to do something that as a JW you were never allowed to do. It is a great feeling to be free from the rules of JW and to actually enjoy yourself , things seem so bright, new and exciting. There are many little things in my life that I have always wondered about, and that was one of them. I am glad I have the freedom to do the things that I want to do now.

Don't forget to tip your bartender!!!!!!!!! LOL

As they say, "There's always a first time." Tips lightens the load or pays the bills. Good for you.

Sounds like you had a great time.

The lawyers I work for are part owners in a night club. I told them if they ever needed a bartender, I would love to do it. It wouldn't be boring.

I'm sure you did a great job! With a pretty face like yours I'm sure you'll continue getting great tips! I waitressed/bartended for almost 8 years before I finally joined the white collar workforce. Although it was good money, it was exhausting work to do for that long. I actually took a paycut getting into the corporate world, but today it's worth it. I'm not on my feet all day and I have great benefits. But I know if anything happens to my job I have something I can fall back on to pay the bills.

I'm glad you had such fun doing it. For some of us, taking care of others is a necessity.

    Dede,

Glad you had fun! I have done my share of serving drinks, too! I had started a job in sales and needed to supplement my income until I got the hang of it, so I decided to be a cocktail waitress after work. It was hard work but the tips (aka cash in hand) was so nice to go home with at nighttime. Like Billygoat said, its nice to know you have something to fall back on if you need it.
