    Growedup,

Edited to add: MAYBE we could form the "National Apostate Association" and have our first meeting in Cancun. Meeting agenda to be: should we sue the WT for defamation of character, libel and slander? It could be a write off for all of us....... Quick! Get me some WD-40! The gears need some greasing!

I think this is a brilliant idea (sorry - can't turn the red off!) I have often had dreams of taking the WTS to court for some sort of human rights abuse - I mean, look at the way they treat DFd and DAd people. Think of the mental damage they inflict on families by forcing them to cut off association with family members. If someone could make a good case for the emotional damage inflicted on them, wouldn't a lawyer somewhere would take the case on? Isn't it against the law to inflict physical (blood issue), emotional (DFing/DAing) or mental (brainwashing) harm on people? Isn't there something we could do as a united group to show the WTS they can't treat people like this any more? Anyone who has ever been on the receiving end of their pathetic shunning policy should have rights to take them to court - the big hypocritical gits!

Agreed. I have two options when talking with dubs. First is the UN issue, and second is the creation/evolution book. I've studied that book in depth and can show any witness all the lies and misquotes. Both of these options will plant seeds of doubt without relying on apostate sites/literature

I hope I kept my creation/evolution, I think I will do the same. Are the referenced works easily found in any public library? My time is rather limited but I can spare a few hours on the weekends to look stuff up.

Orangefatcat: thanks for the link, I went to the Guardian website and pulled off the copy. I plan on using it!

    Ascot,

Give me a PM telling me approximately where you are - like the city you are in the the major nearby city to you.

I will let you know where to go to find the stuff and how to go about doing it.

I do caution you that I am overwhelmed at work lately so I may not respond back with the information as fast as you may like but I will get it to you.

You can also go to the "Tablet" and read Steve's article. Here let me link you:

    http://www.thetablet.co.uk/cgi-bin/archive_db.cgi?tablet-00577

If you go to my essay on the topic, go down my references. With Osarif's (and Zev;s) help, you can link to a number of other news articles etc. and other stuff.

If you actually need a photocopy of the original news articles ask me via a PM and give me an address to send it to.

    Terri,

I'm with you ALL the way - but it's a pain trying to get ANYONE to take this on. JWs come under 'Religion' - and that alone seems to cause authorities and the legal system to shy away from getting involved. There IS mental abuse. There IS emotional damage. There IS physical harm - and yet still Watchtower carries on with seeming impunity. I've even contacted the charities commision, TWICE (how on earth can Watchtower have charity status with all the pain it inflicts?!), but it is frightened of taking action. I was told the best thing I could do was speak to the trustees. Who are the trustees? The elders! The VERY PEOPLE causing the trouble!

I'd be better off going to RENTOKIL.............

One thing I do know is that the WT has used the defense of a mutual relationship between a member and a church and has won. So we couldn't do it from the point of view that they have shunned us. However, I think (don't know for a fact) that it could be done from a defamation of character, slander and libel angle because the people who shun us are told that we are liars and are against God, when that is not the case! We are telling the truth! The issue would not be whether we are being shunned, which the courts have upheld. The issue would be the damage to our reputations and how they have forced others to shun us because we are liars - which we are not! Does that make sense?

I'd sue em if they quit shunning my family. I hope it continues. It's the best gift they have ever given us.

Anything that keeps them away is great. GaryB

Actually... it does. This is something to really think about. I'm not sure if any lawsuit would actually be brought, but it seems to me that if there is a weakness in their armor, there is one here. There are enough folks about who've lost their reputations and relationships due to WT slander, it wouldn't surprise me if at some point one or a group decides (a la Vicki Boer) that it is worth the gamble to bring such a lawsuit...

    Has this been discussed before?

Also, xjw... ! Excellent. You make me smile! If you get approached again, I think you should be ready with a UN address or website to give another independent corroboration.

P.S. Good that the UK had it in a newspaper...I wish I could find a US paper that had the info about the JW's joining the UN in it...
