LOL! I remember the "wide open door" policy was still in force in Bethel 20 years ago... (probably still is).
But maybe it was common American view of "decency" back in the 30's. Remember, in Orson Welles' Citizen Kane, the "singer" girl says her landlord wants her to leave the door open if she receives a man in her room.
"I further Vow that, with the exceptions below, I will at all times and at all places, conduct myself toward those of the opposite sex in private exactly as I would do with them in public?in the presence of a congregation of the Lord?s people, and so far as reasonably possible I will avoid being in the same room with any of the opposite sex alone, unless the door to the room stand wide open:?
So then......did russell make this vow BEFORE ...or AFTER....the accusations about him "having a young girl in his quarters for hours" by Russels own wife? Did he leave the "door open"?
That phony wheat peddal'in, hell hate'in, gray bearded, young thang lov'in, hypocrit bastard!
