    Bin Laden 'surrounded'

    February 22, 2004

A BRITISH Sunday newspaper is claiming Osama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by US special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Sunday Express, known for its sometimes colourful scoops, claims the al-Qaeda leader has been "sighted" for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite.

The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him.

The claim is attributed to "a well-placed intelligence source" in Washington, who is quoted as saying: "He (bin Laden) is boxed in."

The paper says the hostile terrain makes an all-out conventional military assault impossible. The plan to capture him would depend on a "grab-him-and-go" style operation.

"US helicopters already sited on the Afghanistan border will swoop in to extricate him," the newspaper says. It claims bin Laden and his men "sleep in caves or out in the open. The area is swept by fierce snow storms howling down from the 10,000ft-high mountain peaks. Donkeys are the only transport."

The special forces are "absolutely confident" there is no escape for bin Laden, and are awaiting the order to go in and get him.

"The timing of that order will ultimately depend on President Bush," the paper says. "Capturing bin Laden will certainly be a huge help for him as he gets ready for the election."

The article says bin Laden's movements are monitored by a National Security Agency satellite.

On Thursday last week, General Richard Myers, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, said America had been engaged in "intense" efforts to capture bin Laden, who was believed to be hiding in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

But he insisted that the focus of the search had not narrowed for months.

i think if a capture is likely to happen then this quote, "The timing of that order will ultimately depend on President Bush," the paper says. "Capturing bin Laden will certainly be a huge help for him as he gets ready for the election." is what the setup/capture would be all about.

Regardless of whether or not this would do good for President's Bush bid for re-election, we need to get Bin Laden.

IF we did capture or kill him, yes, it would benefit his campaign, but I ask: Why shouldn't it help it?

For those though, that think we have been waiting to get Bin Laden until the right time for Bush's political career, I think you have been watching way too much tv and movies. That is a consipiracy that I cannot buy into.

regardless of whether or not they catch bin laden I think Bush jr. needs to be removed from office . He just seems too eager to mix religion with politics the old christian nation crappola needs to make a swift exit from government . IMO . He also made promises before elected to make national security the focal point of his administration yet did nothing till after 911 on the issue .

DIM -- If you liked the bush administration tax refund , I think you would really like the libertarian tax reform plan that includes an end to income tax altogether. Getting money back is great but don't you think 911 was the worst thing that has happened in the USA since WW2? I think the whole thing could of and should have been prevented very easily by the government . Now they are spending 100 ,s of billions of dollars chasing terrorists all over the world and destroying countries claiming they can rebuild and make them better of which we haven't seen yet . If anything terror attacks have increased ,everyday I'm hearing about people and property being destroyed in Iraq and afghanistan . What the hells the point in all of this ?

    Else,

the only thing you'll ever see of Bin Laden is the bag used to hold his body parts. I don't think he can be taken alive. But who knows. I thought Saddam would put up more of a fight than he did.

Mega, not only is it not likely that he would be taken alive, but it would be utter foolishness to do so. Kill that mf'er!
