It's funny I never really considered myself a kiss-up and actually growing up a witness always considered myself more the other way. The funny thing is though when I was newly married (at an all too early age..what a shock hah) we had a CO visit and I somehow ended up working with him in service one day and he politely told me that if wanted to advance in the organization it would probably be a good idea to start by getting rid of my Jeep Wrangler and getting a car more suitable for service. I was very surprised at this but more surprisingly was the fact that I actually did it, Don't ask me what I was thinking. Obviously I wasn't. I was trying to impress the CO and my wife was always on my case to do more in the congregation and I guess that's why I did it. Well needless to say because I am now out, that that gesture didn't change things in my heart. My wife actually cheated on me ironically and she was DF'd years before I left. Thought this was a pretty funny story on the Kiss-Up subject.

I wanted to be the one people kissed up to, hahahahahahaha.
No, I was Sister Take Them Down a Peg or Two. Elders hated it when I asked a question that seemed simple or obvious.

We had one family in the Hall that were such "kiss-ups", that they used to get the CO on every visit to come over their house and their in-laws. Both families were husbands that were elders. They monopolized the CO and his wife between them and generally, their families were on the Circuit assembly programs every 6 months.

I didn't have time to bother with those who were in the "in group." What a sad group, really. I don't have time for self absorbed people, regardless of circumstances.

I was always in trouble for speaking my mind. If I tried to kiss up, they would have been suspicious!

I sure don't think I was, the last two years I was in the Hall no one spoke to me. The elders told me right to my face that they were telling the kids not to hang around with me because I was a bad influence. My mother was a big kiss-ass so maybe people thought I was doing the same. But when I was young I was so shy I wouldn't even speak to the CO when we fed him lunch so I don't think I was.
