Where ever you are, make the best of it.
If you're not willing, my hand is!
I am quoting some old sayings that have served me well:
"take some time to stop and smell the roses"
"go barefoot more often"
"don't lose the child inside of you"
Here's four:
O Lord, may I never want to look good. O Jesus, may I always read it all: out loud and the very way it should be. May I never look at the other findings until I have come to my own true conclusions: May I care for the least of the young: and become aware of the one poem that each may have written; may I be aware of what each thing is, delighted with form, and wary of the false comparison; may I never use the word "brilliant." ? Theodore Roethke
Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independant, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it?s liberty and interests by the most lasting bands. As long therefore as they can find employment in this line, I would not convert them into mariners, artisans, or any thing else. But our citizens will find employment in this line till their numbers, and of course their productions, become too great for the demand both internal and foreign. - Thomas Jefferson (1743?1826)
And, he gave it for his Opinion; that whoever could make two Ears of Corn, or two Blades of Grass to grow upon a Spot of Ground where only one grew before; would deserve better of Mankind, and do more essential Service to his Country, than the whole Race of Politicians put together. - Jonathan Swift (1667?1745)
Positive Thinking:
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don?t.
If you?d like to win, but think you can?t,
It?s almost a cinch you won?t.
If you think you?ll lose, you?re lost,
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow?s will;
It?s all in the state of mind.
If you think you?re outclassed, you are;
You?ve got to think high to rise.
You?ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life?s battles don?t always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.
- WALTER D. WINTLE, ?The Man Who Thinks He Can.??Poems That Live Forever, comp. Hazel Felleman, p. 310 (1965).
Cherish all that you have today, for you will lose them one day.
Never look at where you aren't, look at how far you've gone.
Whenever starting a thread, look and see if someone started a similar one just before you.
Never let the Bast@*ds get you down
Never answer the door early on Saturday monring.
