Splenda, the low cal sugar substitute

Everybody's a mutant, so we all react differently to the various sugar substitutes. I use NutraSweet alla damn time and have no problem with it. I hate saccharin - it's more bitter than sweet to me.

Too much Splenda gives me gas, too - same with maltilol/sugar alcohols. I hear that's pretty common, so it probably wasn't lactose intolerance. I do like cooking with it -- for a few weeks I made my family Splenda-flavored scones every Saturday morning.

Just don't pig out on the Splenda ice cream, ok?

Hi Sirius, Why not try buying the Splenda sweetener and using it in something that you know you aren't sensitive to to find out for sure? Malitol can be very problematic in many individuals, and is contained in a lot of "sugar free" products. I can eat Splenda with no problem, but malitol does me in. As far as the warnings go-everything in moderation, I say. According to scientists, foods as innocuous as peanut butter causes problems in laboratory animals.

This isn't as bad as Olestra with the infamous 'anal leakage' warning, but maybe a noxious fumes warning would be a good idea.

First, most people did not react negatively towards Olestra. It did get a lot of bad press though because they put that warning on the packages, and it killed the product's success.

I have tried Splenda and it has had no negative side effects. I haven't tried this icecream though. I think I might just to see if I can reproduce your biological warfare results. lmao
