My dad never was a JW either so sometimes my mom has an "out"(excuse) to associate with her df'd kids with him being the "head of the house." Not that she does very often but once in a while she will attend something saying "well my husband insisted that I go." Whatever!!! I feel your pain and all I can offer is to tell you to hold on to your dad. Some people don't have any of there family so I consider myself very lucky to have him. He comes over for dinner and lunch without her and life goes on without my mom.

aahhh Kat. I know you said in chat you were upset with your mom and now I see why. I'm sorry. Hopefully you will get some advice that works well in your situation. I'm so new at being out that I am not sure how much help I can be, but I wanted to put in my 'support' for you at any rate..

Hi Kat,
sorry to hear about this dilema ( Jws can be harsh). So you must be as the Old Testament says "sly as a serpent". Why not? The Watchtowere is.
Imagine 20 years from now; you would never be able to live with yourself knowing you did not attend your parents 50th!
So I have a suggestion:
Tell your mom---you will do what ever she wants----- and I wager your Dad wants you there. Let Dad have a little "chat with mom". And tell Dad discreetlly that you will attend . Keep it quiet. And Attend. Act as if nothing happend. (Respectfully, Mom sounds a little selfish. So you tell her a little white lie--so what?)
Once you are in attendence, do you really think she will up and leave? No. Go and have a wonderful time ( we should all be so lucky to celebrate our 50th with the same partner!)
