    Heathen,

Your appeal to Mosaic law for anything in the matter of the execution of Jesus is pointless...Jesus was killed by the Romans, not the Jews. The Romans, who borrowed, and perfected, crucifixion from the Phonecians didn't give a rat's hairy but about Mosaic law when it came to executions.

The most logical answer to all of this is that Jesus was executed on a cross, with a cross beam, nailed through the wrists and the ankles after having been scourged...this was the favored way of the Romans to execute criminals...and it served as a warning...thus the traditional cross...visible from a great distance, sent a message that a stake in the ground would not...that death was about.

I've been looking around for this one site I read where it showed an article by the society that said that it was now possible that Jesus *may* have died on a cross. That they don't know if it was a cross or stake.

I read it last year and haven't ran across it anymore. Does anyone recall this info/article?

Would it be rude of me to suggest that he may have been skewered? Afterall, didn't jeezus ask people to eat a symbolic form of his flesh in remembrence of him? Maybe some stoned out jews decided to take it literally and stuck a rotisserie stick up one end and out the other and had sheesh kabab christ.

LIf, however, the victims are tied with their hands extended over their heads and left hanging, death can occur within an hour or, in minutes if the victims legs are nailed so that he cannot use his arms to elevate the body to exhale

The last part of that sentence makes no sense. How could the victim "use his arms to elevate the body to exhale " if his legs were NOT nailed?" By doing chin-ups? Just how many chin-ups could one do under such circumstances, especially after being brutally flogged before the crucifixion and by having nails drilled through your hands with your hands open? Also, the argument is contradictory: if a victim's legs were left dangling, his arms would be the sole support of his body and he would suffocate more quickly than if his legs were nailed. In otherwords, nailed legs would provide more support for the body than un-nailed legs.

There is another aspect about this that is surprising: the sponge soaked with vinegar (or soured wine) that was offered when Jesus said he was thirsty is actually a stimulant, not unlike smelling salts. It was often used in those days to resuscitate flagging slaves on Roman galleys. Yet, Jesus uttered his last words and collapsed into death right after receiving the vinegar. This is fishy to me: normal humans are temporarily resuscitated when they sniff or taste vinegar, yet a young and PERFECT human speciman dies under the same circumstances?

Paul said "boast" of the "stauros" on which Christ died as a symbol of resurrection over death, so it is unbiblical to call a cross a repugnant murder weapon (Galatians 6:14, 1 Corinthians 1:17-18) Those who teach Christ died on a stake or pole instead of a cross ignore that human remains with the ancient item of death and also inscriptions show archaeologists that the stauros was a cross not stake. Dr Frederick Zugibe's research shows suffocation would be in minutes if on a stake but in hours if on outstretched cross as Luke

Just check the scriptures which indicate clearly that Jesus was crucified: John 20:25 says: So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he (Thomas) said to them, "Unless I see the NAIL MARKS in his HANDS and put my finger where the NAILS were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it"

You see that these words are written in plural (more than one) and especially the word "NAILS" is incriminating to the witnesses as that word proves that there must have been 2 (two) nails, meaning one nail in each hand.
