  What was it for you? You know, the last little thing that blew your patience out of the water and forced you to face up to the fact that you were in a cult that doesn't believe in the bible so much as it believes in it's own power structure?

  For me it was beards. Stupid I know and possibly the most trivial of things to be 'stumbled' over but to me it was the epitomy of what was wrong with the witnesses - arbitrary rules poking their noses into the lives of people where they had no business. What also got to me was that people accepted this, noone stood up and said that this was 'going beyond what is written' and was bollocks. The level of control the GB exercised over people's everyday lives was unacceptable to me, people would even wait for an Awake article before they would buy a microwave, bloody rediculous.

  So anyone got anything similar?

  I just got off the phone with a good friend that was raised Mormon. He doesn't undersand the whole witness thing, he works for a witness.

  I tried to explain to him what was the straw that broke the camels back. For me it was the unloving way they treated me after my husband cheated on me. I wasn't a good enough wife etc... the walls started crumbling.

  They have never treated me well, after 3 years they want me back..........for what????????????

  The "generation" change. Mentally (whatever that means), I was totally gone from that point on...emotionally, took me another 7 years (and only after I'd joined this db).

  As long as I was working for the Borg things went OK. When my wife ran amuck I needed their help and support. Two of these untrained Bozos came to my home, sat in my front room, and slammed and trashed me verbally and told me what they really thought of me in front of my wife. Later one of them told me they only did that to win the wife back over. Any of you lurker Elders just remember this, after a domestic situation is long over the words you spoke will still be remembered by the people you abused in your misguided quest to save them!   Seeing the elders treat the brothers like if they where crap. Watching them(elders) lie just to get their way. Seeing other dub's lie about their past for their benefit. This ORG is full of two faced lying bastards.

  I especially remember a very earnest, baptised, young man -- who was a few years older than my teenage self at the time ? who was not allowed microphone privileges (and other duties) because he had a beard. He had a beard because he had some medical condition that meant he would have to shave four-five times a day just to stay clean-shaven.

  To answer the question; I suppose the final straw was laid by a very intelligent householder/RV who succinctly questioned/refuted all that silly stuff we used to peddle. She pulled together a lot of loose threads that had been secretly bothering me at the time.

  The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I decided to go back to school. I had two Elders in my home biweekly telling me that I was wasting my time. The generation change, dateline, and the UN scandal only confirmed to me that they were a bunch of bull.
