But I do agree that the society speaking of "Other Gods" is just dumb, cuz at the same time they preach that there is only One God.... Thats just weird.

The Society taught us, as the Bible says, that there is only ONE TRUE GOD!! All the others are false................but, then, think about it, Jehovah spent alot of time sending plagues against false Egyptian Gods, which would seem to indicate to me that they do exist, on some plane/level................else why would HE? challenge them?

Forget it, this ain't makin' any sense to me either~LOL!

The "Jews" of antiquity were poytheists (worshipped multiple gods), this gradually gave way to a monolatry (acknowledge the existance of many gods but actively worship one as patron god). True montheism (there is only one god all others are myths)is a late concept in Judaism that was cast into the mythic past to add authority to the new theological developement. When passages in the OT speak of other gods they meant other gods, rivals to YHWH.

Well, I get the historical and factual settings the bible was written in. My point is, if you try to sell it as logical and as a "truth" you are simply contradicting yourself with "One God", and "Other Gods". So, thats why the society is weird.

Ain't it lovely to just throw names like "You are Weird!!!" at them

Me thinks that the WTBTS falls into the same trap that the Pharasees did. They take certain things literally that elicits the response they want. Just like many churches that promulgate the literal return of Jesus on a cloud with millions of angels on His side. For many this puts them into a swoon or trance. They turn off their brains and ignore all the scriptures that would provide evidence that this needs to be understood "spiritually". God, and gods, spoken of in the same sentence can be literally for one and perverbally for the other. When both are given equal treatment, ie literal, then the dichotomy of your original question of this post ocurs. Its a trap that the WT writers fall into themselves without even being aware..

The OT Israelites lived among various polytheists... and as I recall the WT used these warnings as an anology about caring about anything besides the WTS.

From my perspective-----all the books of the Bible were written by MEN; thousands of years ago. They were written FOR and ABOUT the political and religious world of that time period.

I find it very ironic that despite all the technological marvels of our time; humanity is still marginally influenced by ancient writings from another era.

To many people( including myself) these writings are just words; or rather bluntly said " Judeo-Christian Mythology"; and while these teachings have dictatorially controlled empires and lives for 2000 years; they tend to have little or no effect politically in the 21 century. Yes there are those who take these writings very spiritually and that is their right to do so.

To the worlds secular crowd, the writings of the Bible have less influennce or effect on the physical world or our lives than Mickey Mouse or the Disney company

I now pray to as many gods as possible.

So far I have a couple of items guaranteed to me by a few enthusiastic, eager to win deities.

They are trying to 'outbid' each other.

    May the best god win!!!

IMHO, the WT society goes on and on about false gods simply to create another object of hatred for JW's.

In this way, the JW's are united against yet another object of fear, presumably this is so they will be more bound together by a common enemy.

    It's an old trick.

People have their gods. I think the wtbts god is the the product of a delusionary fear that is refined and sort of cast in stone, aside from when their god is wounded (by trueness), and then their god gives them (they give it) 'new light', because their god is light to them.

"and without Him was nothing made that was made"

As the god is made by their own, it is they that also then provide the light - it has come from within them - and some indeed identify with the projected image, but others others simply submit their mind to the other's god, in fear, for a long or short time. Courage is required for insisting upon the truth above all loss, and it is that devil is described in terms of coward.

Even within 'christianity' there are very many gods - gods that one identifies with and/or believes to be so. For some there is every aspect of loving, but for others there may be an imaginary beast of a person - eg. one like Nero (666) was in spirit - a god who would kill those who mock him, or try to take from him, or not bow down to him, or give him the due homage and respect that he and his loyal servants require and expect.

They can read the same books and say 'yahweh' and 'jehovah' and whatever, but their god isn't myne.
