PV is harmless, the most annoying thing there is all the stupid people trying to sell you timeshares. It is one of those places in mexico were the best deals come from the timeshare people, so if they have a few hours to burn and want free breakfest and discounts on everything, they will have to suffer throught the speal.

Good advice from everyone here. My only additional piece of advice would be to stay within the tourist areas - don't go off an a hike somewhere outside of the "safe" zones.

One more question, Branden want's me to ask if the food and water in the hotel can be trusted?

No, unless it is bottled water and the seal isn't broken. Ice is water, don't use.
No fresh vegetables and salad.
Montezuma's revenge is real.

ALSO...leave a note in your hotel/motel room mail box as to where you are going. If something happened the cops and the hotel would have a head start looking for you.
OK here goes...First off..take some stuff like pens, lighters, books, mags, comic books, anything a mom might like to give her kids...the ladies who clean the room will be gratefull...even more grateful than for a buck or two...also baby clothes. Big hit I'm telling you. Also, don't every buy something like souveniers. without bargaining and walk away if you have to...if they really wanna sell they will follow you. IF they decide to buy pot or whatever, and be honest, you can be polite and not bring this up, but it might save you the trouble of going down to the Yucatan and bailing thier little asses out. Get it from the bellman or something. Don't ask for dope and never buy it from someone on the street. You never know who's watching or setting you up. A bell boy or hotel employee usually apporaches the young dudes easy enough. Stay away from anything someone tries to tell you is X...will most likely be methamphetamines entirely. Have a great time and be careful!
Sincerely,
District Overbeer

BickerChick:
I do love Mexico.....My best times have been on a Motorcycle...
KLS:
Always ask for Bottled Water. Buy a gallon or two at the Supermarket and keep in your room (less $$ spent on water that way, re-fill your carry bottles..). Agian, everything is cheaper at the State Run Supermarkets, everything).
Stay away from the "Street" Tacos (push carts in the street). I am a little liberal about wondering away to where the locals go. You will find the best places to shop and eat where the locals go to shop and eat.....If he sees a restaurant with lots of locals, eat there!!
However, that being said, "explore" during the day and early evening. Late at night, stay away from the dark areas. If they learn of a great bar or something fun in another area, have the taxi take you to the door, and usually a taxi will be there when you leave, or have the establishment call for one. Remember, the Government sees the tourist as $$$, and you will see lots of cops around...
You may want to have them buy a pre-paid international calling card to call home. It is a rip-off what the Hotels and other establishments charge to call the US....
The bottom line is Show RESPECT. Be polite, be complimentary, smile....They will have the best time of their lives!
PS:
Don?t listen to the Taxi cab drivers about where to party or buy, etc., they get a kick back from whatever business they are "pushing".. say thanks and go to where you were going, don?t let them plan your visits...
