The hotel replied that they don?t need to give a discount, because the get a lot of Witnesses anyway

LOL Priceless. Somebody from that congregation, should call the Manager and let him know what was read from the platform.

Then the Days Inn should adjust their sign out front. "Welcome and Special Discount to Jehovah's Witnesses"

Wouldn't the org be in breach of some anti-competition regulation by coercing people to make commercial choices that they prefer not to?

I remember a few years ago the Watchtower headquarters in George Town told the brothers that the Sheraton was not on the list that year and were told not to go ahead of the organization and go to that Hotel in the city of Hamilton. I guess this one particular year decided not to have witnesses come in. Well as you know how terribly obedient some of the witnesses are they took it upon themselves to get rooms in the Sherton. Well from the grape vine I was told it was going to be big trouble for those who disobey a directive from the Governing Body. Every year the city of Hamilton was used for conventions at Copps Coliseum. So when the first part of the district went to the convention, the brother from the platform asked that all those who had rooms in the Sheraton Ho tel were to report to some place in the Stadium during lunch hour. From what I was told, these brothers were raked over the coals and that they delibrately disobeyed a directive from the Governing H and and were told they were disobedient. Now this is what I was told. A few weeks later the other part of the District Had the assembly in Copps Colisuem. and again during the first day of discussion it was requested that those who went to the Sheraton Hotel were to report to some place at the coliseum. I don't know what happened but my dad who was an elder told us that the society was terribly disappointed that the brothers disobeyed.

So I don't know if any in positions were deleted or not. But speaking for my self I believe it is a crook of shit. Many disabled friends needed the closer hotel and motels because for them to get around is really difficult, ask me I know. I had many times in shear frustration and pain just couldn't comprehend the society's stupid rules. I just bet Bro. Jack Nathan and the others from bethel stayed in the Sheraton including travel ing Govering Body members because of their own frailties.

I just think that the society likes to rule with and Iron Fist.

Oh well what can a person do about it. Smile, grin and bear it, even though you just wanted to die from the heat and uncomfortable chairs and those with disabilites needing so much help and genuine support. Not to much of that is around.

So If I want to stay were I want to stay then I am going to stay and stick it to them.

I'm all for blocking rooms for a disccount price and letting those with large families or on a limited income have the cheaper rooms, but those that are fortunate enough to afford higher end accomodations should not penalized just because the WTS hasn't "approved" of that particular hotel. Every convention we went to, they ran out of rooms and had to add a suplemental list later. Even then it wasn't always enough. If there's going to be a shortage, then let those who can afford to, get rooms whereever they want and save the cheaper rooms for those that need them.

Even though this arrangement could save some people money, there did seem to be an underlying control factor at issue. To not abide by the list, you were ostracized. It's a hotel room, for God's sake. It's not a commandment or even a principle anywhere in the Bible that indicates that by not following a "recommended" list of rooms you were disloyal to God.

I agree with the poster who said it was/is a control issue.

Probably the elders watch the goings-on at the "approved" hotels to make sure the J-dubs are behaving (not taking those free pastries from the breakfast bar along for lunch, or not drinking too much during happy hour, etc.)

But if the brothers stayed anywhere they pleased, how could there be any such control? And who could make sure you're wearing those proper name badges that you slide into those flimsy plastic sleeves?

I still resent the fact that for the better part of 25 years, District Conventions were our family's summer vacation.

What a flipping waste of time.

Does this mean that the yearly warning Kingdom Ministry is not far off! DO NOT:

    Walk in hallways

    save seats

    use the bathroom

    use hotel pools

wear nametag 24 hours a day

    do not eat during sessions

    blah, blah, blah

I am seriously considering this. I happen to be involved in the travel industry and have had occasion to meet the General Manager of this hotel. I could easily slip him the info.
