Another place that never fails to uplift me is in upstate New York. It is a one mile walk straight up. It is a historic mountain point called MT. Defiance. It overlooks Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga...........you can see for miles in any direction from there............I like it when there's a brisk wind blowing...............last time I visited I left a crow feather for the spirit of the mountain...............

My favorite place is my Mothers hometown in Puerto Rico, Arecibo. I love Arecibo because it is on the edge of the ocean on the northern side of the Island. There are places there, especially in the main town by the beach that I have a somewhat primitive connection, as if I landed there with Columbus in 1492 or thereafter.

Atop a cliff in a howling gale, with the waves pounding the rocks so hard that it makes your teeth vibrate.

Alternatively, in front of a roaring open fire, with the wind whistling in the eaves.

Or, lying on a hot, soft, white sand beach, with the sun beating down, the waves lapping at the shore, and the distant caw of seagulls.

Can you tell that I live on a Scottish Island?
