(Off topic) Sirius: thanks for the quote. I had that book (in French translation) lent to me by a fellow Bethelite in the 80's and boy it was hilarious. I've thought of it many times since but had forgotten the name of the author to this very day...

Well, myth comes from mythos which means sacred story. The importance of such a telling is not the facts, but the truth of the matter. The question then is not, Does Jehovah Exist? Rather it is, Is the story about Jehovah sacred?
Personally I think it is very sacred. It tells the tale of a people who continued to resist great evil inflicted upon them by their deity, and continued to turn to other more loving and lovely deities of other more enlightened peoples...aka the baals. (btw baal is also a word translated husband...)

Its a catch-22.
If he his real, he's got the best sense of humour in the world cause he's laughing his ass at us today.
If he's not real, someones laughing thier ass off at us today!

JamesT:
the limited mind attempts to know what it can not know by creating anthropomorphic deities, of which there are many. These creatures created in the image and likeness of man it labels "God", or more specifically "Jehovah".
Yes, the "I" and "not-I"; a basic psychological imperative. Couple that with the epistemological limitations of our personal comprehension paradigms, and the sociological needs for continuity and identification of "self" within a community of similarly limited beings: it really all does make perfect sense.
No, I don't personally believe in "Jehovah," but I respect why someone else might.

Actually, YHWH is a c omposite male and female God of YH (Yah, Yahu, Yaa, Yaw or Yahw) and the Goddess HWH - from which we get the composite name Yahweh (YH'HWH or YHWH). The name 'Jehovah' is an incorrect anglicisation of Yahweh.
Therefore, YHWH as God is a myth. But whether there is an Almighty God, as has been shown sooooooo many times on this forum, is open to belief, conjecture, faith, supposition, etc. In other words, no one really knows.
Hope this helps,
Ian

I don't know. I don't even know how to start knowing.
It would certainly be nice, however, if there was a god.

I think we can cast our vote that he's a myth no different than any other of the mythological gods,,, but because of a shear quirck of circumstance,, namely jesus,, Whom I think he may have elevated this myth enough to outlast many of the disguarded ones presently.
But it's time to dump this one, too,, yes there is too,, much information about the lies of the Bible, sorry we have to asign him there, if we are honest with ourselves.
