Terri, I too lost a job in a humiliating fashion. In my case I didn't see it coming at all, it was a power grap when the contract changed and there were secret meetings as to who would be kept. People I thought were my friends decided that they didn't want me for reasons I will never know. I had good performance reviews and in fact I made huge cost savings over the time I was there as a purchasing agent. What a blow to my self esteem, I can't begin to tell you.
In my case I went into depression. It was the first time in my life I had been on unemployment. For 6 months I collected and then the only job I could find here was as a secretary. 14k a year less than what I had been making. This is a huge adjustment. I am so blessed to have a partner that has been through it all with me and supported me or I would have been literally on the street. That is a frightening prospect.
I hope that you can find something else quickly and that unemployment comes through for you. I'll light a candle for you tonight and send some positive energy your way.

I'm sorry Terri. We all make mistakes, and you've owned this one. It says quite a bit about your workplace that they would throw you out for one mistake.
Have you thought of contacting an attorney to see what your rights are? I'm not familiar with Connecticut law, but having someone review your situation might be helpful.

Stay cool, kid. ASSESS THE SITUATION! Don't jump to the worst possible conclusion. See what you actually ARE and HAVE and then you can work out what is ATTAINABLE. It's not as bad as it seems.
Gretchen, I can totally empathize with the whole "secret meetings" and "supposed friends" thing. My theater group exploded with similar betrayal and acrimony - despite the consistent progress we were making on the scene. Anybody that thinks that a sudden "jerking the rug out from under" doesn't really affect an individual is a fool.
