    Gumby has lost his mind.

I was thinking "associating".....not being disfellowshipped for associating. Forgive my braindeadness.

I have not heard of a strict policy regarding disfellowshipping a person for associating with a dfed relative.....however the society STRONGLY spoke against doing so. "What sharing does light have with darkness" and such.

Boy do I feel like an ass now

OFC, I am sorry that your Mom is in the hospital. It's a terrible pain to feel that maybe you shouldn't see her because she might get disfellowshipped. One more act of christian love from the JWs.

Whatever you decide to do will be a good choice because you are just that kind of person.(((OFC))) Panda

    OFC,

Panda's post reminded me that I got all caught up in trying to answer your question and missed the most important thing of all....your mom being in the hospital.

Panda put things elegantly and thoughtfully, and echos my thoughts as well.

The key word from that statement in the Flock book may be "Normally". It could well happen that if a body of elders decides that someone is having more association than the elders would deem appropriate those elders might try to turn it into a judicial matter. As some have already responded, it often ends up being a situation that varies depending on locality.

My experience has been that if a JW associated with a DF'd relative, they would be counseled not to do it. If someone was sick, it's a different ballgame. But no one I've known EVER got df'd for associating with a df'd person. Apostasy would be the only exception.

I specifically asked a D.O. named "brandozy"( looked like Mike Musto).......about this. He said unless a publisher who was hanging with a Dfed one and sticking up for his wrongness...carrying the banner for him so to speak, and verbally saying things like " He should not have been disfellowshipped, the Elders were wrong" or the like, then they were not to be disfellowshipped. It is also in a late 70's Watchtower as was mentioned.

The dubs have such a strong dogma instilled in them to shun one who has been announced "disfellowshipped" that it was uncommon ....at least in my area, .... for others to want to hang with them anyway.

Like many other things, the WTS was being duplicitous in having that quoted passage from the "Flock" book. Although it was the official procedure, as far as the R&F were concerned, and still are, the situation is that you can be DF.

As someone else pointed out here, a local BOE may take a stand and this will be upheld by the Service department.

In our area, packs of young baptized brothers would prowl the streets and if they came across any disfellowshipped people they would viciously beat them to a bloody pulp.

Not really!!! But that would make a great movie.

"When Pioneers attack!" or "Revenge of the Un-disfellowshipped"...

    Orange,

I seem to remember your mom being in the hospital just a short while ago (with a bowel obstruction?) and her treating you so badly when all you wanted to do was make sure she was going to be ok got you so upset.

I admire your desire to support your mother during her illness, but just remember you don't have to put yourself through that if you feel that she is going to upset you again.

    Love, Scully
