    got my forty homey?

When I went to Fayetteville NC I decided to drive to Charlotte one day and I took all back roads. Along to the way people kept waving to me and my wife and I asked her, why are they waving at us? Also something that puzzled me was teenagers saying yes and no Maam to thier parents when called. At first I thought the kids were being sarcastic, but then I come to find that this was the way children behaved.

    Tatiana,

Now that's funny and purdy accurate, too! The only 'edit' I would make is on # 14, down south...that meal you eat at nighttime -- it's called "Supper", Dinner is something real fancy and usually not at home like ! lol

    Eyes,

No road kill for me either, but, I've known of poor people in south Luzy-anna that went on 'road-kill' patrol...if 'it' wasn't too badly beat-up, 'it' would end up on the kitchen table for butchering n' eatin'.

I like squirrel, never heard them called 'tree rats' tho' that's funny, I have killed and eaten 'Possum -- not too bad. Down here in Texas we have an "Official State Road-Kill Animal" -- called the Armadillo. More of these guys meet their end on highways than any other. I tried to eat one of these, nearly passed out from the stench while cleanin' it. See, I always had this personal rule...I would never shoot anything...that I would not eat. So-o-o, yes, I chicken fried it and it tasted purdy.................bad. Really, really bad. My dogs ate it tho'...

When I lived in south Luzy-anna, everybody called a skunk... a "woodbunny". Do they still do that way up North in the 'Yankee' part of 'Luzy-anna' around Shreveport?

    Roybatty,

What kind of wine goes good with coon? :)

Easy -- Mad Dog 20/20 ! Ah thought all y'all knew thet one...or some may say 'Bud Lite.'

    Y'all come back now...real soon...y'all hear...?

Yes, WI is in the north. I've lived here for about 7 months. I guess I have to explain that after my mom decided to be a JW and leave my dad, we ended up being transplanted from Maine to the good ole' SOUTH. I grew up on a farm in Andrews, SC. I was a tomboy. I slopped hogs, fed chickens, rode a mule, helped pick cotton and cucumbers, and strung tobacco every summer. Rode in the back of a '64 pick up truck with all the kids in town, and loved every minute of it. (btw...don't ever have a cucumber fight. Those bastards hurt like hell !!!)

Like my grandaddy used to say, it's a one-horse town and the horse died. It took them a long time to get that "other" stop-light! And there were bootleg houses on every block.

Now, I do love the city. I lived in Chicago for about ten years. But, I wouldn't trade the experience of living on a farm when I was small. I was never afraid of any kind of bug. I used to keep all kinds of things in jars. My son, Dominic, is so deathly afraid of anything that crawls, he won't even go camping. I hate that.

I went frog gigging with my step-dad. (You have to go around midnight.) There's nothing like fried frog legs!! YUM!! I've eaten turtle that we caught in the pond. Rabbit. Venison. Lots of people eat coon and possum. I never did. My step-dad tried to get me to try rattlesnake. Nope. My dog got eaten by a gator, and another dog got bitten by a copperhead and survived by keeping his head in a deep mudhole for days.

we have "the big intersection" , it is only caution lights. And yeah you better come to a complete stop or you will get smashed by a log truck.

LOL.....lyin' ....so, so true about the log trucks. They don't slow down for anyone.

    LOL...rabbit.....I was thinking "Thunderbird!!"

I did draw the line at chitlin's, and hog maws. But, the absolute worst thing I ever saw was when they castrated the hogs and cooked "mountain oysters." (Ever watch Funny Farm?) hehe........You have NEVER heard a worse sound in your life than a hog getting his balls detached!!!! LOL

waiting.....OMG...Hemingway????? I used to dread going in field service there. Very depressing place.

lyineyes...she bit the head of a turtle off...omg... she doesn't mess around. And I guess kids have to learn sooner or later where dinner comes from. She probably still talks about the time grandpa shot the bunny.

    Great thread tatiana!

I'm a southern girl born and bred. I have lived all over the south and east and west Texas. I have lived in Chicago and Honolulu. I live in Michigan now.

Folks, not all of the south is created equal and not all southerners are friendly or genteel.

I lived in southeast Louisiana when I was in elementery school. South Louisiana is the friendliest place I have been on this earth. JWs there are very friendly there, too. Same for North Louisiana, very friendly people but not quite the same as the southern Louisiana cajun influenced culture.

North Georgia is the most unfriendly place I have lived, especially these days because a lot of the counties are overun with crank and crack. I raised my kids there. I went to highschool there.

Chicago is the second friendliest place I have lived. It was a good initiation to being north of the Mason/Dixon line, living in Chicago.Southwest Michigan is much friendlier than even they realize it is.

Texas, both east and west was awesome. Loved it there.

One thing I have found is that if you go back a few generations and look at who founded a state as well as their religious background, you understand the friendliness level of the natives.

    Re: roadkill

A girl my husband grew up with had two brothers who hunted every weekend during huntin' season. She killed more deer with her car than they did with their guns but that didn't bother any of them, they ate those too.

    1 small problem with

" If that cell phone rings while a bunch of mallards
are making their final approach, we will shoot it. You might want to ensure it's not up to your ear at the time. "

How often have you seen a mobile phone ring while it's at someone's ear?

    99. High school is considered higher education down here, and many choose not to attend. :)

It's an untrue stereotype that southerners generally attend college less than northerners. Compare say Chicago to Atlanta. Jenison, MI to Tucker, Ga.
