  Lately in the news is the story of the wt selling and wanting to build in the DUMBO area.

  There is a secular group in opposition because of just such sepratist and odd behaviors.

  Maybe you should get in touch and relate your experiences with them so you will have some back-up support.

  (I don't have the link, but maybe someone else can provide it)

  Also, dining out is a luxury and you should be left in peace to enjoy your meal. You should definatly notify the owner/manager of the ugly experience you had.

  Restaraunts exist only if they are welcoming and worth the cost. I am sure the managment would be stunned that their employee's are doing their best to offend the customers.

  Just confirms what idiots they really are. Most I come across run in the other direction, a few have said hi, and one I talked with at length in a store. I know one thing I will not alter one step for these people.

  I am a 3rd generation New Yorker...simply ignore them .

  there are so many crazy people in NY that try to get your attention ( yes, JWs and homeless people, and tourists and, yada yada yada...) that if you payed attention to all of them you would go nuts.

  Ignore them and go about your business. ( I expect this attitude is why so many people think New Yorkers are rude) They are problably expecting you to become demonized and drug crazed since you left the "Truth". When they see you actually are happy and have a life; they become somewhat insecure and what you see is them most likely acting out their own insecurites.

  Forget them ( or better yet; tolerate them the way we tolerate the other "street crazies" in New York) and just live your life. Remember, they cannot harm you.

  At our last EX-JW MEET-UP some JW came in and sat near our table of 7 people. Well when they heard part of our conversation, they jumped up and moved to a table clear across the room away from us. The looked terrified. Like we had just sprouted horns. We all had a good laugh over that.

  I've never been harassed except by one man who used to be in my congregation. He worked at Wal-Mart as a greater, and stepped in front of me and glared at me as I left the store. I just walked around him and my son said Mom you should have decked him by kicking him in the crotch. LOL

  I find most of the active witnesses are scared to death of ex-jw's.

  From what I have read over the years, there are quite a few at Bethel. They use underground tunnels to get from one spot to another, avoid "worldly people" as much as possible, and contribute little to the community economically and other wise.

  They shut their doors on 911 and pulled the shades.

  Many work outside the plant to support themselves, stay in groups, etc.

  It wouldnt suprise me at all that they congregate and try to take over the neighborhood feeling that they are outnumbering the worldly folks.

  It sounds very regional, and very real.

  They are regulars at upscale restaurants in new york, wt has alot of fingers in a lot of pies.

  They can afford it, dividing up the contribution box money guarantees it.

  Most JW's I know are pretty passive and try to avoid confrontation especially with someone they consider to be an "apostate".

  I was thinking the same thing.

  I like the pepper spray idea someone posted. A tazer would be good, too.

  I'm saying this is complete nonsense. I think the guy is lying in his teeth. I have never seen or heard of one thing in the organization that would support, encourage, or even allow this kind of behaviour. However, and I'm not trying to be insulting, anyone that believes this restaurant story is a fool.

  You'd have to give me some context on your personal experience before I could comment on it. And yes, most dubs are little pacifists, not all, but most.
