    Eyeslice and Ozzie!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately (or is that fortunately) I still can't remember the 'melody'. Every so often a Kingdom melody will pop back into my head and I spend several days trying to forget it again!

Ozzie - a CD with vocals? Is it an all male choir?

I think the only time I was impressed with a recording of a Kingdom Melody was a tape made at a dedication of a Kingdom Hall. It was a woman singing with just a guitar accompanyment and one male voice doing harmonies. They sang 'We thank you Jehovah' and it was very well performed and actually quite moving. I don't suppose they'd be allowed to do that now!

Black Sheep - So it wasn't just me then! 'Then forward you witnesses, ever strong of heart, Be happy and joyous you too may have a fart' or something like that.

The following from "Revelation Its Grand Climax at Hand!, page 36 has the classic Watchtower Society answer:

    "Loving Praise to Jehovah

    and His Son

"In the songbook produced by Jehovah's

people in 1905, there were twice as many

songs praising Jesus as there were songs

praising Jehovah God. In their 1928

songbook, the number of songs extolling

Jesus was about the same as the number

extolling Jehovah. But in the latest

songbook of 1984, Jehovah is honored

by four times as many songs as is Jesus.

This is in harmony with Jesus' own

words: "The Father is greater than I

am." (John 14:28). Love for Jehovah

    must be preeminent, accompanied by

deep love for Jesus and appreciation of

his precious sacrifice and office as God's

    High Priest and King."

How can 7 songs, which is virtual exclusion, be construed to mean "deep love for Jesus and appreciation of his precious sacrifice and office as God's High Priest and King"? How do 7 songs fit in with Matt. 5:23 where we are told to honor the Son just as we honor the Father. And he that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him?

I thought if I just sang really loud the songs would sound better.

Well put, Kenneson! It seems to have escaped their notice that Jesus promised that his followers would be "witnesses of me (Jesus)". Nowhere is it recorded he spoke of Jehovah's witnesses.

But in the latest songbook of 1984, Jehovah is honored by four times as many songs as is Jesus. This is in harmony with Jesus' own words: "The Father is greater than I am." (John 14:28).

As you say, a classic Watchtower answer! And as usual it's a furphy!

In the 1984 Songbook there is far more extolling of the "Organisation" than Jesus. How do they account for that?

Further the text they use is quoted out of context. (Surprise, surprise!) Jesus was stating the obvious. Well, it's obvious to all except the Writing Department and that is: Jesus in his earthly body was obviously in a subordinate role. What's the problem with that? It has nothing to do with singing Kingdom Songs.

    Cheers, Ozzie

Well I just learned something new! 7 songs? Kenneson's post was excellent, I remember that now, it seemed to make so much sense at the time

I remember looking through the songbook during the meetings and finding a song that was almost never sung with a verse about being like "bees that were molested". Who writes this crap?

Rachel (who is hoping she can rid herself of the "kiss the son lest god be angry and you perish in the way" verse)

It would be interesting to see what songs were dropped from previous songbooks.

I seem to recall that the excuse was that they were reducing the number of songs about Jesus, and increasing the number about Jehovah, over progressive song books. Maybe that's what they were trying to achieve by erroneously inserting the name "Jehovah" into the New Testament. Gotta get the ratio right, ya know!

I'd say that it's about time they had a new book with his name removed completely, since they've had this last one for about 20 years. Not to say that the Green and Pink ones were an awful lot better.

Yeah, those pink coloured songbooks! Who remembers them? They were real classy looking, a darn sight better than the brown covered ones.

I remember the pink ones, they were flexible and they had guilded edges. The gold always came off on your hands.

I haven't thought about the songs for a very long time. My mother was very "show-biz" and used to make all of us kids get togther and sing for the traveling Overseer when he would come visit.

My brother would always make up different words and we would start laughing and get "the eyes" from the sister playing the piano.
