It is no wonder the Jewish leaders had ridiculous rules concerning the sabbath. The following scripture alone should instill fear of those forsaking the Sabbath.
(Numbers 15:32-36)--"Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day. 33And those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation; 34and they put him in custody because it had not been declared what should be done to him. 35Then the Lord said to Moses, "The man shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp." 36So all the congregation brought him outside the camp, and stoned him to death with stones, just as the Lord had commanded Moses."
Here was a man killed by God for gathering wood on the Sabbath. So didn't the Pharisees have a point when they confronted Jesus?
Matt 12:1 At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on a Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pick heads of wheat and eat them. 2 But when the Pharisees saw this they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.”
I'm not a bible scholar but it just seems like a lot of contradictions throughout the bible.
