Tonight I'm serving faggots with leeks, new potatoes, runner beans and cauliflower. I buy the faggots from my local butcher, they're the old-fashioned type wrapped up in suet.

Careful Eman, "faggot" is a very offensive word over here... lol. My mum used to make faggots and mash, I couldn't stand the stuff, it literally gave me a headache.

Oooh, toad int' hole... I LOVE that..

Ozzie What in the hell is "Toad in the Hole".

And what are you doing up at 2:00 am in the morning? Hungry?

Yes, XJW, I was thinking the same thing...looking back on this thread, Brits were posting, aye, 1 and 2 in the morning! That may help to explain Celtic's advisory comment that haggis is composed of:

Meat from cows testicles, bladders and eyeballs, ears and hoofs

Cows have balls??? Well maybe they do in Cornwall, it's all that Radon, you know.

Hello there, we have just had toad in the hole for dinner. Of course my favourite grub is meat pies or steak and kidney pudding, home made.

But, if we are talking grossly disgusting sounding food.... I have a copy of the very famous American cook book, The Joy of Cooking, and it has a recipe for squirrel which involves beating said (dead) sqirrel in order to mash the bones up, AND my favourite heavesome thing, frogs' legs in mushroom sauce. Now that's YUKKY!

Scottish food... stovies is very good.

Welsh. ages ago I lived in Swansea and used to get fresh laverbread, ate with bacon and eggs.

Mushy peas mmmmm now that's ambrosia.

There was a fab cafe in Hexham called the Tin Hut, next to the farmers' cattle mart, did s&k pie, proper chips ,mushy peas and gravy. Big mugs of tea. Gorgeous!

    Meat Pie.

It's basically sausages (Brit sausages!) in Yorkshire pudding.

"Pudding" doesn't always refer to a second course BTW, we even have steak & kidney pudding.

Kinda like a suet pudding with currants in it, IIRC.

Englishman, that "Toad in the hole" looks really good. I did a search and found some good recipes, I think I'll try to make this. Probably won't taste the same without the brit sausages though.

My Mom makes the best Roast beef and Yorksire pudding. Yummy! I've tried but I can't make it like my Mom does.
