    I agree with Oxnard hamster.

I'm not a believer of the word......but from a purely biblical perspective.....I see no connection in these scriptures.

One scripture Jesus is simply teaching that his father gives to those asking.........the other is a refrence to god punishing those that rebelled against him. That's it. To not include the blessings god gave to his people when they proved faithful isn't being fair to this subject.

    I am not pro-apostate

This statement strikes me as implying that "apostates" are an organized movement, the same straw-man that the WTBS is always attacking in the pubs and from the podium via its travelling representatives.

Are you sympathetic to disillusioned JW's who no longer attend meetings and are openly critical of the Watchtower organization?

As far as the thread goes, I agree with SS.

    SS:
    He went against the Priests?
Hmmm, that's a new one on me. I thought the Scribes and Pharisees were his favourite target, with the occasionally foray against the political wing of the Sadducees.

I don't recall any attack of priests.
Temple money changers and herdsmen, yup, and he even defended himself against the accusations of the High Priest's guards. He enquired why he was being questioned, and asked for witnesses to be brought forward, but I can't think of where he had-a-go at Priests.

I am not pro-apostate, but you do understand that some of these complaints here are the same complaints the Israelites had. Namely being lead by a Privileged leader they deemed incompetent.

Fine, but the scripture states that the people spoke against God and Moses. Now if Moses just came out of thin air, that's one thing, but the Bible states that the people rebelled against God also, which is something entirely different.

    Exodus Chapter 12
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.

Biggest Mathematical Miracle in the World

Moses and his people were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and fed is what he did, according to the Quartermaster General in the Army.

It is reported that Moses would have to have had 1500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each a mile long, would be required!

Besides you must remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long just for one day.

And just think, they were forty years in transit.

And oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day, and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water!

And then another thing! They had to get across the Red Sea at night.

Now if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So, there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night.

But then, there is another problem.

Each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long...think of it! This space just for nightly camping.

If you remember later in the "story" Moses eventualy did come out of "thin air" and never made it to the promised land. It would be sad if that is the fate of the WTS after all the years of poking holes in other peoples "arks" pokes holes in our own.

Also I believe that anything in the bible that is quantitive such as numbers in the bible or the strict use of the word all and every should be taken with a grain of salt. Many errors in translations of numbers have been discovered because of bad math or transcription errors. So 4000 has become 40,000 in some bibles. These things were reproduced by hand after all and writen in totaly different languages.

Oh yee bastards of wee faith. *unzipping the nrsv*

Many times the pharisees were acting as agents of the priests, in that they were sent by and reported to the priests.

Mark12:13 Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians to trap him in what he said.

Nevertheless, a few times jesus confronted the priests directly.

Matthew 21: 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you.
32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and even after you saw it, you did not change your minds and believe him.

After a confrontation w the priests, jesus gave the following speach in luke20: 9 He began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, and leased it to tenants, and went to another country for a long time.
10 When the season came, he sent a slave to the tenants in order that they might give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 Next he sent another slave; that one also they beat and insulted and sent away empty-handed.
12 And he sent still a third; this one also they wounded and threw out.
13 Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.'
14 But when the tenants saw him, they discussed it among themselves and said, 'This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance may be ours.'
15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "Heaven forbid!"
17 But he looked at them and said, "What then does this text mean: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'?
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls."
19 When the scribes and chief priests realized that he had told this parable against them, they wanted to lay hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people.

This was a vieled threat that the priests and their system would be smashed because of their not siding w jesus.

Another of the same, w the priests still present, listening:
    Matthew 21:45-22:14
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.
46 They wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowds, because they regarded him as a prophet.

22:1 Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying:
2 "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.
3 He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come.
4 Again he sent other slaves, saying, 'Tell those who have been invited: Look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.'
5 But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business,
6 while the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them.
7 The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
8 Then he said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
9 Go therefore into the main streets, and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.'
10 Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing a wedding robe,
12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?' And he was speechless.
13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14 For many are called, but few are chosen."

Again, jesus is threatening the priest's system, and suggesting that they would not enter into a favorable afterlife/resurrection (what their afterlife belief was is not clear to me).
