what fascinated me when i was dating my JW girlfriend was her and her families attitude towards the mormons running from door to door. they were actually making fun of them. now my question is how can the JWs expect to be taken with respect if they themselfs have none for other door to door preachers?
First question: Why are JW's ridiculed so much?

Good Point. Too many times they say things like "there go them irritating mormons on their stupid bikes"
lol I would rather ride a bike than walk!
Edited for spelling.
Yea, sometimes I type fast.

First of all, I have noooooo problem sharing. But I'm not going to engage in arguments with mindless embeciles. The ones it applies to know who I'm talking to. Yeah I DO still see some truth in what they teach. And? But I've also grown up and become wise enough to formulate my own opinion and YES I have questions. If it matters TO ME then I'm going to ask. If someone shares the same viewpoint or would like to offer their intelligent, objective, non-judgemental opinion then so be it. But I'm NOT about to be insulted without a swift comeback.
And I do look forward to posting and chatting with more intelligent people on real issues, including my own.
Thank you.

I think you are part-troll, but I will answer your original question... I was never a JW.
JWs are annoying, first of all, when they come to your door in the morning and find it hard to take "no" for an answer. When I was in college, I ran down a flight of stairs to answer the doorbell, in a bathrobe and with my hair in a towel (never had done that before), and got 2 women who had no trouble trying to make me stand there and ask questions while I was freezing (see, I wasn't able to ask them in, and they were interrupting my reasons that I couldn't deal with this now...). VERY IRRITATING. And they were not the last to do this, sadly. The holiday and flag salute thing is not quite as big of an issue for many people.
Even nice JWs are forced to be irritating just by being nagging. They are trained by the WTS to be irritating!
Yet I have dealt with some very nice JW women who actually DID know how to listen as well as try to teach. Only 3 in my experience. The more common JWs are the ones who blow off everything you say, with bizarre logic, and look at you with near contempt, especially if you are closing the door to them. Now I know what was in their heads all along: "You're a goat and I will have dibs on your house after you die!"
You notice that the Mormons aren't ridiculed as much as the JWs? They are not as condescending and proud, even though their theology is extremely loopy. They go door-to-door, but they are a lot more respectful.
And this will explain why Moonies get a lot of ridiculing, too. When you are in a rush at the airport and someone approaches you with a flower and a request for a donation, that is NOT a good time! Your mind is on other things, like making your plane or meeting your friends. But these people don't have respect for you, only their agenda. Jesus was never so pushy.
Anyway, I have learned a lot here. I am not so irritated anymore--I feel pity for the great number of nice JWs who are irritating door-to-door equivalents of telemarketers.
2 cents,

Are you also not going to engage in arguments with people who can spell "imbecile" properly? Is that a rafter I see in your eye?

Apparently you feel that anyone who disagrees with you is a mindless embecile. By that definition almost no one on this board measures up to you lofty standard of intelligence. May I respectfully suggest you read thru this entire thread again ? There were some very thoughtful reasons given in answer to your post. Bug

Whoa! Edited my message. Ummm no I didn't. I typed it once. Why do people on this board seem to think people would go through such extremes as to "troll" a board or change messages I don't know for maybe fear or whatever? HEEEEEELLLLLOOOO, it's a messageboard. You can't SEE me, or touch me.
But anyway, you make some good points despite. All of my questions are just that questions. It's not because I believe they were right or whatever. If I did I'd be baptized by now.

2bad..you'll be fine...just chill and spend some more time reading here...that maybe gives you a better perspective where we come from collectively and through our individual experiences. BTW, we can all be imbiciles sometimes...just don't forget to include yourself in that group when necessary..

It isn't just JWs; anyone as humorless, pompous, unjustifiably self-important and takes themselves as seriously as they do just begs for ridicule.
