How do Americans feel about Canadians and Britons interjecting their opinions

I like it when they agree with me. ;)

People in countries that have had socialized medicine for a long time who comment about American tort law is particularly hilarious.

srsly I do not understand why most of US news and politics is of any interest to foreigners.  Maybe it's because we're the wayward apostate children who left the family homestead and struck out on our own. Who knows.

If any Brits or Canadians would like the Kardashians, you can have them. Keep them.

I don't care. Go ahead and share your opinions. I might learn something. Or I can ignore you entirely.

I probably agree with you about a lot of it, anyway. I think a lot about the US sucks -- Palin, for instance or the Republican party. Bash them all you like!

I realize that Canada is wee tiny in comparison to the United States in population, and that a big country like the US feels like we are a fly on their nose....but....American politics and happenings DO affect Canadians. We are greatly influenced by what happens in that country.

The US does not exist in a bubble - the US political climate affects way more than those who live within its borders.

We can't even get Canada to take Bieber back.  "You broke it, you bought it."

I guess they have a point.

To answer the OP "Who cares?"  :P

    (JUST KIDDING!)

But seriously folks, if Americans want to preach that they are the bestest, and they are running the world ,,,,,,,, well, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

    xoxo

I rarely give any opinions about that particular subject in this forum, I mean, it's the INTERNET, why bother?  It's not like we are a close, intimate group, and political discussions can be civil.  Flame wars are so *yawn* .........

Do I care about America's actions on the world scene?  Hell YAH, what YOUR country does,. affects us all.

Do I think it's my business, about your President's and their pecadillos?  Your scandals and race wars?  Nah,,, as long as you keep it at home - HAVE AT IT!

When you start sending my fellow Canadians to Syrian torturers, yes, THEN I will speak up.

Let Monsanto destroy YOUR crops, let Coca Cola give YOUR kids diabetes.  Keep your cultural imperialism at home, and stop saying you're the "BEST" and the "SMARTEST".

When I think of American Exceptionalism, I think .........  Seriously?  Really?

lol, and peace, love and happiness to you!

It just seems perverse that the nationals of a country that espouses freedom and free speech object when people freely talk about issues.

What does it matter where people are from? If they're interested in a topic, why should their contribution be questioned for validity based on their nationality? Is it not self-evident that all men are born equal?

If one wants to limit contributions based on country of origin, don't use a free platform like the Internet. Go somewhere geographically limited, like the town hall or local watering hole.

Why do citizens of the two above mentioned countries, or other countries, feel the necessity to tell Americans how they should interpret the American Constitution for localized issues?

I think it fair to say that the minority of the most vocal critics do not always represent a majority of citizens.

Also, it really ain't my business and I'd usually take the track of "tend to your own garden"

However, as has been said, the US does have a large influence in many ways, so with respect to certain topics and issues, I think it fair game to voice an opposing opinion, should I have one.

Cracks me up. Go to Plano, TX. Highest gun ownership, lowest murder rate in US (and one of the lowest on the planet). Canada, you are our attic (as Ellen D said we forgot we left all this shit up here!). GB, just give us a call the next time your getting overrun. I highly regard free speech, just don't touch my 12 Gauge.

The US does not exist in a bubble - the US political climate affects way more than those who live within its borders.

To clarify, I was referring to "most" of our news. I do understand some of the USA's actions affect nearly everyone on the planet, so it makes sense to pay attention of course.

It's the rest I don't understand--American lawsuits, legislation, celebrities, artists and social issues that do not affect other countries. There are so many other rich cultures to pay attention to besides ours. I fear those cultures are being outshouted by Katy Perry, octomom, Kardashians, the red carpet, etc. Am I right to be concerned?

Not sure if concern is necessary. Nor am I sure if US 'culture' (with inverted commas given the examples cited) outshouts many local cultures to a significant degree. What appeals to Americans about those things probably appeals to (or sparks morbid fascination for) foreigners too. Thus they are interested on much the same basis as Americans, and they probably have their interests in their local culture, community etc too.

What an American might be concerned about is that, it seems, only a relativity small proportion of Americans seem to have much insight into what happens out of the US. That is concerning. More concerning is that many might not think it matters what's happening out of the US, or deem it uninteresting, or even inappropriate to take an interest.

Note the minimal participation here in non-US centric current affairs threads. If nothing else, that almost forces discussion of social / political / etc issues into the US context, which attract the US posters and ensure a well patronised discussion.

I might as well throw in another Chaser clip (which is obviously set up for comic effect, not to represent anything like a fair cross section of Americans....).
