Were You Able To "Express Freeness of Speech" While You Were A JW?

an elder stepped up and got right in my face and was not yelling but talking very loud so all could hear , and man he went off on me saying" jehovahs children learn right from wrong ,it makes them stronger on what to do and not do

    What a fool.

... and yes as a JW one has to control not only word and deed but also random thoughts, that swoosh back and forth across the mind without direct will.

A brother I knew was that frightened by the mind police and eventually God, that he constantly swore in his mind when reading the Bible. He developed an obsessive compulsive disorder and ended up on a pile of meds.

Those who attacked me for speaking out of turn occasionally were often the most hypocritical when one examined their own lifestyle and general daily practise.

The WTBS can be a frightening spiritual retreat for the vulnerable.

we are not a money making church we cannot afford to pay for schools". Somebody should've told him that religious institutions don't pay for their schools, either - "tuition" does. And it ain't cheap! (Just ask the "brothers" in Sacramento - half the young people I knew in the "Borg" went to the "Witness" school... and I even home-schooled by own daughter through it for a couple years. And it wasn't "free", either!) Ah, well... Peace! A slave of Christ, SJ

JWs know they can't ask questions. They're baptized now....

    Hey AGuest,

I just noticed your posts around here recently............*howdy*. Nice to see ol' friends again. Good points you make.

Especially if a jw is a woman or child.........no, freedom of speech wasn't freely available.

I was told that I couldn't even ask a question of an elder/ms/brother at ANY time unless I had asked my husband first, privately. And it was a simple question I asked privately of an elder - and he refused to answer. Really.

    It sucked. Really.

Women are considered a lower class in the congregation. You must speak to a woman's "head" first.

    lol - yeah right.

My *head* was usually asleep during the meetings. So therefore, if I had a question about the meeting, it would have been met with a blank stare. His favorite question to me after the meetings was "Did I miss anything?" Which was answered with "No."

ps to Minimus.............I think it's great that we can discuss a "woman's *head*" and also "my *head*" and not give into the natural dirty joke thingie. It's killing me btw.

    Minimus,

Free speech and JW in the same sentence?

Those two go together like oil and water!

There is a Proverb that goes;" They will kiss the lips of the one speaking straight foreward" The Apostle Nathaniel, was described by Jesus as,"Behold a man in whom there is no deceit." Moreover,Jesus said;"unless you become like young children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of God".( Kids are usually unpretentious and don't put on airs.) I have found Jehovah's Witnesses to be pathological liars. When they are not outright blatant bold faced lying. Then it's innuendo mealy mouthing.
