Last night President Bush had a news conference and was asked by several reporters if he thought he should appologise for the 9-11 attacks.

I wonder how FDR would have responded to such a question about Pearl Harbor?

How about Chruchhill? Can you imagine his response if asked to appologise for Hitler bombing London?

But yes, people should have demanded it, especially in the face of all the clues that were there. I think it says alot for John Clark and Janet Reno were the only ones willing to take SOME responsibility. If I had family that were victims or dead soldiers, I would be soooo pissed. He totally dodged the question and asserted his arrogance about how HE got the US on a war footing. This from a guy who buys slip on shoes because he can't tie his own. This guy has GOT to go.

    JeffT: Unfortunately, no...

FDR had indications as good as the ones Bush received...but he did want us in the war by whatever means to mostly defeat Germany.

I don't know about FDR and what he personally knew about the attack on pearl harbor but the US Navy could have done something to prevent it . They denied reports that a navy vessel had sunk a jap sub hours before the attack but didn't take the report seriously . I think the current administration needs to take responsibility for 911 . It is very clear to me that the republicans wanted to go after Iraq one way or the other . I know the majority of Americans wanted to attack afghanistan and Iraq because of the opinion polls they were taking at the time and obviously that's how people want to run this country . I still don't get the alleged connection between Iraq and 911 and the faulty intelligence reports of WOMD seem to be held up as the main reason for invading Iraq , I do think someone needs to apologize for presenting the american people with lies for evidence .

    You can't win.

Bush invades Iraq on the grounds that Iraq is a threat to the free world. Some of his excuses don't pan out(ie WMD) but Hussein was a bad guy, he hated the US and her allies, he hated freedom. He supported terrorism(supposedly). The UN wouldn't do anything about it so Bush did. Look at the shit he's in now. What are his critics saying? Shouldn't have invaded. Didn't have enough reason to invade. Couldn't make an Al Queda tie. Should pull out now. Americans are dying. We don't belong there.

What if we use that same reasoning in pre 9-11 actions? What if more military action was taken before 9-11? The same people who condemn him now would have condemned him then. On one hand he's critisized for taking action and on the other hand he's critisized for not taking action.

    You just can't win.

    undercover,

you will find less people complaiing about the invasion of afghanistan. why? because those guys were actually involved with al quaeda. hussein simply was not and did not pose a threat.

Are all of you saying for a fact that no one asked FDR or Churchill to apologise?
