Your judgement is clouded. You know the Bible is an interesting book. You should read it one of these days. One of the qualifications of an elder stated at 1 Timothy chapter 3 is "given to hospitality", a phrase that is translated from the Greek, "philoxenos", meaning "generous to guests"...and yes, as you probably guessed, a variation of brotherly love, as the prefix "phila" indicates. If you are reasonable to such a man in your request, you will get a respectful reply. No elder would behave in such a way as you would have me believe.

I got a visit once...I knew it was them at the door when a friend was over. We heard the knock while playing Madden 2004. The following was loud enough for them to hear it outside my thin apartment door.
Friend: Who's that?
Me: (checking the door and returning) Nobody.
(unPause and play. knocks again)
Friend: Someone's there, dude.
Me: I know. I don't want to talk to them
We then shout and trashtalk while playing. I KNOW we were heard.
