How do I get my music published? What should I avoid?

Recently my musical ability has taken some big leaps.

I am experimenting on a new type of music,,perhaps avantguard??? To me it sounds like nothing I ever heard,,but people tell me it is very hypnotic and different. I can play this stuff for hours,,my right hand gets numb,,I just shake it and play a different way for while and then go back to a weird theme that is super easy to change often. I use different types of tunings or the standard and it takes on a life of its own.

    Any suggestions?

Not exactly sure what you want to do here. Do you want to record it? Get it out in the open? Play shows?

My only suggestion is that you label your first album, "I saw the light at the end of the Carpel Tunnel"

    Nos,

Get it recorded,,and out into the open.

I know it may be a long shot but I think I'm on to something but don't have the expertise to put together a recording,,I don't think I need any back up,,just me playing.

I'm still developing new things every couple of days,,so I may be ready soon I don't know it is really weird. I have to be stoned and in a trance state to let it really start flowing.

There's a nice program I've been using for my current project called "Multitrack Studio". You can download it here:

    http://www.allianceweb.sk/free-download/multitrackstudio.php

All you need is a microphone that plugs into your PC (I use the inputs on my stereo rather than the PC input). The software has a lot of good features for adding effects to the sound. I personally use a separate wave editor to mix and edit the music.

I believe there is a click-track feature built in to keep time (although I haven't used it yet). If there isn't one, I strongly suggest getting a metranome.

As far as distributing it, I've used a few sneaky methods. First of all, I converted some of my works to MP3s, created a website, and put links for downloading my songs.

Second, I've used Peer2Peer filesharing. What I've done is changed the name of the author (in the filename only), and used bandnames that somewhat suit the genre of music that I do, to target the audiences that would most likely listen to my music. In the MP3 tags, put yourself (or your band) as the author, and make sure you put your URL in the tags so people can visit your website.

The only thing I can't really help with is copyrighting music. Some people put their recordings in a sealed envelope, and mail it to themselves to get the date stamp. I've tried this here in Canada, and it's been unsuccessful, therefore I need to take the risk of having my music ripped off.

edited to add: I've had some success with people downloading my music.

I hope some of this helps.

    Nos,

I'm being lazy,,I've been playing stoned for a couple of weeks,, and I don't want to start a business because I already have a machine shop business I run all by myself, so I don't have time to learn the business. If I could find someone capable to handle that end I would do it,,but am afraid of signing contracts I don't understand. So if I found someone who knew his stuff I think I would be fair in my shareing a percentage of the profits.

Does anybody do work like that??

I could make a real sectional type of demo and cut it up into partial segments,,so as to not have comercial value,,what do you think??Just put enough stuff to wet someones appitite.

The information I gave you wasn't meant to help you start a business, but get your stuff out there for little to no cost (and have it sound good). Personally, I can't see this adding an incredible amount of time to your schedule. With what I've given you, you have complete control over how you want your recordings to sound, and when you want to work on them. However, if you like, you could find a recording studio in the phone book, make an appointment, and pay hourly for the amount of time you spend recording your work rather than doing it for free. You could also pay someone to create a website for yourself.

Getting your stuff out there is going to require some work on your part. I'm not telling your to start a record label, I'm giving you some tips on getting your music out there via the internet.

    Nos,

I have a Boss AD-8 acoustic processor I bought 1 week ago,,and a very good set of headphones(sennhieser??) which havve opened up my ears because my hearing is a little bad. Anyway the sound that comes out of the headphones is fantastic to me. Is there any way I could hook it up to the computor I have and send out this type of demo???

If your acoustic processor has a plug on it labeled "line out" or "output", then you can connect it to your PC. Your Computer's sound card (where the speakers plug in) should have a plug marked "line in" or "input". What you have to do is get the necessary cable(s) to connect these two plugs together. You can get the cables at any store that sells audio accessories.

If your acoustic processor doesn't have an output plug on it, you can use your headphone jack.

You'll know it's working when you can hear the sound coming out of your computer speakers. You can then use Multitrack Studio to record whatever you're playing, and you can add as many overdubs as you like.

    Nos,

I think I will go to the store and get that cable,,I can't download the software on that site you posted I must be doing something wrong. Maybe I give you a demo when I get it on the computor. Is there a good software I could buy?
