Why Hasnt America Been Attacked Again??

  The government has a 'bad guys' list and you would be surprised to see the kinds of names that are on it. You cannot just screen Muslim looking people. You have to remember that there are the muslims that appear arab/iranian and then are black muslims with an axe to grind (the Black Panthers were/are a very violent group). Then you have the IRA .............full of white Irish people from all age groups. You have Mafia organizations, Columbian terrorists who kidnap people, you have the Mexican Mafia and as we saw on tv, there are Basque groups that will be violent.

  You never know just who is a terrorist these days. Besides, if they skip you to frisk the Arab sheik behind you and he is not a terrorist they can start suing the ACLU for profiling.

  One thing has kept us safe and that is duct tape, we have lots of it, and since 9/11, we have gotten more duct tape than any other country in the whole world. Any organizatioin or country would be crazy to attack us, it would be suicide with all of our duct tape.

  As far as the national political conventions this year, I'm not sure anyone would try to hit such a convention, even though it might be very attractable. I do wonder though if a attack were to occur, who would it help, Bush or Kerry. I think it could go both ways. People could be like, well Bush obviously isn't keeping us safe or they could get scared and say well an attack every 2 to 3 years isn't so bad, we'll stay with Bush. Hopefully we won't have to find out.

  Maybe it has been the case all along, but it seems like there was a time when you shared your thoughts in a more mature way than this. I enjoyed the posts, as they presented the conservative viewpoint without the typical taunting and sarcasm that is so nauseatingly typical of American conservatives. Lately you are becoming much more like your Limbaugh-esque brethren. Disappointing.

  you condone the killing of civilians once again. don't you see that palestinian terrorists or especially the guys in iraq can use exactly the same arguments?

  Good points. I've been told I look very Irish. My mother is Irish, so maybe that's a factor. The first time I was picked for this, was back in 1989 at Heathrow airport. Again in '96 at Heathrow, then many, many times since 9/11. It isn't a big deal, just a minor irritation, as I see obviously Arab-looking people walk right through.

  My 15 year old granddaughter went to Sweden last summer to visit family who live there, and she had the most thorough "exam" I've ever heard of. My son took her to the airport and he was disgusted. She is dark haired, but blue eyes, and very innocent looking. One of the agents there said there were beginning to be young female suicide bombers, but even at that, it's all random. Hmmm, I wonder.

  The bombing of military, political, and industrial targets in no way compares to strapping a bomb on and walking into the middle of a crowded shopping mall or restraunt and blowing up.

  I don't think the extra security checks should be random at all.................I think they should check every Muslim, or those who look like a Muslim.

  I agree, that's why they need to check every white christian, or those who look like a Christian....Remember Oklahoma??

  I have to agree with something that was said earlier.....about how Arabs think far far ahead into the future, hundreds of years even. Think of the attack in Spain. Some Arabs still have an axe to grind over the battle for Granada back in 1492......that mentality also applies here in the US. They could attack again at any point in the future, just not the near future.

  on a sarcastic note, maybe they are waiting for the color-coded security alert level to go to red??

  there i agree. problem is the US had/has a tendency to hit the civilian instead of the above targets! the US strategy in the past wars could be compared to a terrorrist blowing up a restaurant because a soldier might be among the guests.
